OVERVIEW


Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Intermediate Environmental Land Use Professional based out of our Sherwood Park office. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing pre-disturbance site assessments and assist with stakeholder engagement and surface land applications for upstream oil and gas, industrial and commercial projects in accordance with Vertex guidelines and project scopes.


CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS


  • 4-10 years directly related experience
  • Diploma and/or Bachelors degree in Forestry, Land Reclamation, Biology or Environmental Science is required
  • Familiarity with Alberta Wetland Policy and Alberta Wetland Classification System (AWCS)
  • Holds or is eligible to hold Professional Designation in one of the 10 Professional Regulatory Organizations (PRO-10) listed under the Wetland Policy
  • Proven skills in forest measurements, plant and weed identification, eco-typing, harvest layout, stream and waterbody classification, GIS Arc Maps, Avenza Maps would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Government of Alberta Public Lands Act Pre-Application Requirements for Formal Dispositions is an asset
  • Willingness to work daily in remote wilderness locations only accessible by ATV/Snowmobile
  • Possess a strong attention to detail for quality of work and deliverables

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for both field and office execution, expect 60% to 40% (field to office) split
  • Responsible for leading field crews and completing:
  • Environmental pre-disturbance site assessments, overseeing the data collection for the completion of AER Onestop & APEA Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) applications,
  • Electrical System Distribution Widening Program desktop and field site assessments along with associated timber salvage planning,
  • Pre-construction wildlife sweeps,
  • Environmental Inspection activities for linear projects
  • Supporting Client construction personnel with right-of-way/lease scouting to ensure conformity with Integrated Standards and Guidelines
  • Conducting consultation and site visits with local indigenous communities
  • Preparation and submission of Onestop and DRAS applications; including project referrals to existing reservation/notation holders
  • Performing desktop and field wetland delineation in support of Onestop and DRAS water act applications
  • Preparation and submission of applications for Temporary Field Authorizations to Alberta Energy Regulatory and Alberta Environment & Protected Areas
  • Provide GIS mapping support as required for all of the above
  • Oversight and completion of associated reporting for all of the above

  • This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park office and requires overnight travel to the field
  • Flexible remote work ability
