JOB OPPORTUNITY - Intensive Support and Supervision (ISSP) Worker - Full-Time Permanent

Youthdale Treatment Centres is a leading non-profit and charitable community agency dedicated to serving children, youth, and families from diverse backgrounds and communities across Ontario struggling with complex mental health needs. We work collaboratively through active partnerships between the agency, youth, and families to create meaningful engagement and effective treatment, resulting in positive outcomes.

The Intensive Support and Supervision (ISSP) program is an alternative intervention for youth with mental health concerns who may be facing custodial sentences. Youthdale provides this programming for youth in the Greater Toronto Area, under the YCJA, section 42 (2) (l). Reporting to the Centre for Individual and Family Therapy (CIFT) and ISSP Program Manager, the ISSP Worker will be responsible for providing a variety of services ranging from behaviour management, service coordination, crisis intervention, skill building, counselling, and other individual and/or family services, as needed. The position involves working with youth in the home, school and/or community. ISSP Workers also work closely with Probation Officers to support young persons along with other service providers, as applicable.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Status: Full-Time Permanent

Union/Non: This is a unionized position

Rate of pay: $27.6267 per hour


Accountability:

This position reports directly to the CIFT & ISSP Program Manager

Corporate Responsibilities:

  • Fosters positive interpersonal relationships with the staff, visitors, external agencies, probation officers, other government officials and related professional associations.
  • Maintains and adheres to all relevant legislation.
  • Maintains and adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Policies.
  • Demonstrates management practices, which are consistent with the mission, vision and philosophy of Youthdale Treatment Centers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and/or family services to support positive behaviour change, improved individual and family functioning, management of mental health needs and reduce criminal offending.
  • Engage individual and families in assessment and safety planning to identify treatment goals and provide evidenced based counselling such as DBT and CBT, as well as relapse prevention strategies through the active and transitional service phases.
  • Provide ongoing case management and engagement with the individual’s support system including community partners, schools, workplaces, Probation Officers, and other support providers.
  • Support youth in their homes, school and/or in the community. This may include supporting the individual to attend medical and psychiatric appointments, assessment sessions, job interviews, and other significant meetings.
  • Implement evidence based tools, such as producing Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS) report upon admission and at discharge to guide and inform treatment plans.
  • Maintenance of clinical documentation as per agency policies and ISSP program requirements.
  • Complete MCCSS requirements for all youth justice serious occurrences.
  • Inform Probation Officers of any known criminal offences or breaches.
  • Initiate crisis referrals as needed.
  • Demonstrate adherence to the standards and provisions set forth by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Youth Justice Division. Demonstrate adherence to the standards and provisions set forth by the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA, 2003).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s of Social Work or equivalent education and experience.
  • Annual membership with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CPRO).
  • Experience working with children and adolescents involved in youth justice and/or their families.
  • Knowledge of Evidenced based practices, such as, Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) and other treatment modalities relevant to mental health and concurrent disorders.
  • Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the complexity of issues arising for children, adolescents and/or their families, who are involved with the justice system and have experienced a wide range of mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, good judgment, initiative & creativity.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong crisis intervention, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in response to client and family needs including evenings.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call roster.
  • Knowledge of community resources is considered an asset.
  • Must possess a valid G driver’s license, with access to automobile vehicle. A minimum of $2 M liability coverage is required. Workers must provide proof of annual insurance.
