The Intake Social Worker will support the Intake Program, at the Waterloo and Guelph sites. The goal of the Intake Social Worker at KidsAbility is to support children/youth with special needs and their families at the beginning of their journey to reaching their full potential. As an integral part of the social work services team, you will apply your demonstrated interview, consultation, and problem-solving skills to help recommend and provide a range of preventative, supportive, and educational opportunities to children and their families. This role may also engage with volunteers supporting various programs across sites.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical intake for new client referrals
  • Complete detailed interviews and determine clinical eligibility and priorities for KidsAbility service
  • Provide and recommend appropriate community resources and connections
  • Stay informed and develop appropriate clinical resources based on best practices research
  • Assist families by completing referrals, organizing services and paperwork
  • Liaison with KidsAbility Resource Centre, Clinical Advisors, and clinical staff

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work
  • Membership in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Experience with children who present with a variety of physical and developmental need
  • Medical knowledge an asset
  • Proven ability and willingness to work as an integral member of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding clinical interviewing skills
  • Demonstrated consultation and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Keen organizational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Computer skills
  • Travel is required for these roles. You must have access to a reliable vehicle with public liability/property damage coverage
