Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.

Reporting to the President & Controller, the Information Technology Manager is responsible for leading and building Nasittuq's IT operations. As Nasittuq is still within it's first year of operations on the North Warning System (NWS) contract, the IT Manager will play a critical role in continuing to build and align Nasittuq's IT operations to meet organizational goals and contractual requirements in a stable, secure and cost effective manner. As a key leadership position, the manager provides direction, guidance and mentorship to the IT Team. As a key member of the leadership team, the IT Manager keeps the leadership team apprised of IT priorities, risks, recommendations and other issues. This is a full-time permanent position based in Ottawa, ON with a hybrid work environment (in office minimum 2 days per week).


Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and overall management of the organization’s Information Technology operations
  • Provide leadership, coaching and guidance to a cross-functional team of IT specialists across various disciplines including infrastructure & networking, IT security, systems administration, desktop support and database (Maximo) administration
  • Provide strategic and technical advice and/or recommendations to the Leadership Team on various issues and/or direction related to the Information Technology field
  • Drive the delivery of IT solutions to meet organization requirements and contractual commitments
  • Attend strategy meetings to ensure proposed information technology reflects established direction
  • Address technical issues by delegating or taking hands on action
  • Collaborate with the internal and external Cybersecurity team to ensure Nasittuq and DND managed systems are compliant to our contractual commitments
  • Manage IT projects and solutions within the overall business strategy; able to forecast IT costs and prepare annual budgets
  • Protect our data, software and hardware by coordinating, planning and implementing network security measures with the cyber security team
  • Collaborate with key users and internal stakeholders to identify business requirements and define the solutions
  • Design, develop, implement, and coordinate IT systems, policies, practices, and procedures
  • Some travel to North Bay and to the north may be required

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a relevant field
  • Minimum 10 years progressive experience in information technology, security, and data management
  • Minimum 5 years experience leading an information technology team
  • Experience building and leading a team of technology professionals and developing a culture of excellence
  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing complex problems, takes ownership through to resolution
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capability to influence and guide key stakeholders
  • Adaptability and ability to manage priorities with attention to detail and work cross-culturally
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and theories to non-technical audiences, effective written and verbal communication skills, with high degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment
  • Candidates must be Canadian citizens, be eligible and able to maintain Level (II) SECRET security clearance
