About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Paramedic to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site, on a 6-month contract.

This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off Wednesday to Tuesday, with a 12-hour daily schedule.

The Paramedic is the site's healthcare professional responsible for providing pre-hospital assessment and medical care to people with acute illnesses or injuries. This position also plays a critical role in the site emergency preparedness and response plan and will work very closely with the mine site emergency response coordinator and mine rescue members.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and maintaining the first aid services plan on-site
  • Maintaining the onsite medical facility, its equipment, and inventories to industry standards
  • Cleaning, decontaminating and inspecting emergency vehicles and equipment to maintain a constant state of emergency preparedness
  • Providing routine medical care and advanced life support services to the mine site
  • Responding to emergency calls for medical assistance at accidents and emergencies
  • Being on call during the night for emergencies
  • Assuring compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Administering drug and alcohol screening as per company policy
  • Providing monthly reports and statistics concerning site injuries and incidents
  • Performing industrial hygiene sampling program including medical surveillance testing
  • Participating with Emergency Response Team and emergency response drills
  • Liaising with members of emergency services, such as the police, coroner, Mine Rescue personnel, and other ambulance services to ensure the appropriate level of response
  • Manning an ambulance or other rapid response vehicle
  • Preparing and reporting the patient's history, condition, and treatment to the relevant hospital staff

About You

To qualify, you must be a Primary Care Paramedic licensed to practice in British Columbia with 4+ years of experience in heavy industry.

The following skills and experiences will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Occupational First Aid Level III or equivalent
  • Class 4 Drivers License in British Columbia
  • CPR-C Certificate
  • Friendly and outgoing with strong interpersonal skills
  • Project and organization skills
  • Leadership skills that enlist others to keep working towards the vision of “Zero Incidents & Accidents”
  • Ability & willingness to learn new skills & concepts
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements

Training in drug and alcohol collection would be considered an asset.

The ideal candidate will also be a self-motivated team player with strong communication and conflict management skills.
