ABOUT THE ROLE


TransAlta has more than 100 years of experience in hydro generation. We have hydroelectric facilities across Canada in Alberta, BC, and Ontario, and our newest hydro facility is in Skookumchuck, Washington, USA.


To help ensure that our hydro facilities continue to run effectively and efficiently, we are looking for a results-orientated Hydro Engineer, Electrical to join our Hydro Operations team! You will be based out of our Brazeau hydro-generation facility in Drayton Valley, AB. This is a role that requires the employee to be onsite at the Drayton Valley office and travel to surrounding Hydro Facilities as required (TransAlta will provide a vehicle for work-related travel).


Reporting directly to the Manager, Asset Hydro, you will provide support day-to-day operations and maintenance activities, provide input to long term asset management plans, detailed planning, engineering, execution, and closeout of capital projects and overhauls.


This is a full-time salaried, safety-sensitive position.


WHAT YOU WILL DO


  • Provide daily technical support to operations and maintenance crews, project by providing technical guidance, troubleshooting, and mitigation plans for emerging technical issues

  • Identify, investigate, and record technical risks/equipment conditions in the facilities, with mitigation plans

  • Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring technical tasks associated with engineering projects

  • Deliver or oversee engineering work in all stages from front-end engineering design through to detailed scope and construction packages.

  • Liaise with engineering and operations stakeholders internally (Project Engineers, Technical Services, etc.) and in external peer organizations (AltaLink, Fortis, etc.)

  • Integrity of equipment master data for critical plant equipment

  • Respond to forced outages and plant emergencies

  • Develop Quality Control Plans and Inspections

  • Manage technical tasks associated with capital projects MOC’s

  • Project Management as assigned


WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU


We are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:


  • B.Sc. in Engineering

  • APEGA P.Eng. status (or eligibility)

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in a power generation facility or a large integrated process plant that provides knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts

  • Possess awareness and understanding of applicable regulations and legislations that apply to the power generation industry in operating regions, including the OHS Act, APEGA and AESO

  • Knowledge of equipment risk assessment and condition assessment practices and methodologies

  • Operational, maintenance, and technical knowledge of the equipment and systems in your equipment area of responsibility

  • Knowledge and experience with SAP
