Position Summary:

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting in leading, developing, implementing, providing support, advice, guidance and overseeing programs related to safety investigations, safety performance management, safety training, safety development, safety coaching, and safety mentoring.

In support of these programs, this position plays an integral role in providing processes, tools, and resources to drive achievement of divisional and corporate objectives by building harmonious and respectful working relationships, organizational efficiencies, and employment talent. This position works closely with front line workers, shift operations supervisor and management to advance a harmonious and respectful working relationship. This position reports to the Human Resources, Health & Safety Environmental Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities/Procedures:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Health and Safety Coordinator may chair the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Bring to the attention of the HR, H&S Environmental Manager and Operations Manager any major health and safety issues on a regular basis
  • Assist in leading HSE culture and performance;
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting compliance with HSE regulations across all jurisdictions;
  • Participate in leadership meetings to effect the integration of HSE into the conduct of the day-to-day business;
  • Identify and evaluate HSE risks of area department at least annually and further recommend changes and update safety work instruction;
  • Support programs that promote wellbeing among our employees.
  • Assist in the overseeing and advise the activities Joint HSE Committee and managers;
  • The Health and Safety Coordinator works with managers, supervisors and employees to create safety work instruction. These safety work instructions should clearly outline what is expected of managers, supervisors and employees with regard to safety. Safety work instruction will cover topics such as hazard reporting processes, accident investigation procedures and basic safety rules.
  • Any time an accident occurs in the workplace, the Health and Safety Coordinator conducts an investigation along with the shift supervisor, team leads, joint health safety committee employee rep and the injured worker. The main reason for an investigation is to determine the cause of the accident, but this process also helps determine whether the employees involved were following established safety policies or government safety regulations. Once the Health and Safety Coordinatorcompletes the accident investigation, they report their findings and work with managers and employees to develop plans to prevent similar accidents. The Health and Safety Coordinator also has a role in monitoring the results.
  • The Health & Safety Coordinator will provide safety training on several topics. These topics include fire prevention plans, fire protection and hazardous materials communication. The Health and Safety Coordinatordelivers this training and documents that each employee has completed the requirements. The Health & Safety Coordinator will submit training records to the Administrative Assistant.
  • Perform due diligence safety inspections and audits in all departments and will provide recommendations to correct them before they cause accidents. The Health and Safety Coordinator may conduct these inspections alone or as part of a group that includes managers and supervisors. Safety inspections may also help the Health and Safety Coordinatordetermine whether any employees are using unsafe safety practices and may need more training.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
