Summer Maintenance/Groundskeeper at Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association -Duncan, BC

Location: Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association, Duncan BC

Position Type: Full-time, 30 hours per week, for 9 weeks, daytime shift, some weekends/holiday coverage

Salary: $18 per hour

Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association, a charitable organization, is seeking individuals to fill 2 summer Maintenance/Groundskeeper positions. The successful candidates will work primarily outdoors, perform basic power tool usage, landscaping, painting, and other maintenance duties. This is an entry level position, with some flexibility around times/days of work.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as painting, cleaning, and repairs
• Perform landscaping duties, such as weed control, mowing, fence repairs/maintenance, pressure washing, cleaning manure from paddocks, clearing trails.
• Operate basic power tools such as drills, saws, weedeaters/brushcutters, pressure washers, etc
• Report any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor
• Maintain safety of horses and humans foremost, which includes keeping a clean work environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Must be 15 - 30 years old in order to qualify for this job, created with the Canada Youth Summer Jobs grant
• Criminal Record Check for vulnerable sectors required
• Must have reliable transportation to the work site
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrate problem solving skills, and work well as part of a team
• Excellent communication skills
• Work in the vicinity of horses
• Basic comfort with using power tools and maintenance equipment
• Physical capabilities to perform the physical tasks of the job including; continuously working on feet, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, repetitive motions. Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
