Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. Reporting to: Senior GIS Analyst

Position Overview:
This position will require the GIS Specialist to work in the Thunder Bay office with occasional travel to the mine site (approximately 5 times per year for 3 – 4 days at a time) to conduct training sessions, presentations, and field work. Office work will primarily consist of support and maintenance of existing web GIS systems, SQL Server database management, data processing and visualizations, digitizing, systems development, cartography and other general GIS tasks and user support. Initially, the GIS Specialist will be mainly responsible for completing existing procedures relating to regular systems maintenance with the ability to advance into higher-level projects involving systems development and GIS and data analysis. Field assignments will include RPAS (drone) surveys and photography, installing and surveying Ground Control Points (GCPs), servicing existing weather stations, collection of geospatial data and other survey and GPS field work. Field work could occur in any weather and during all seasons.

Key Responsibilities:
Support and maintenance of existing web GIS and Instrumentation systems.
Geospatial analysis (Geoprocessing, Model Builder, queries, etc. with ArcGIS Pro).
SQL Server database management.
Cartography and mapping (both web and desktop GIS).
Data processing and visualizations.
Drone survey data processing using photogrammetry software.
Web GIS and Instrumentation systems training.
Digitize geospatial features from orthoimagery.
Daily systems health check.
Complete existing procedures (update/publish basemaps, drone orthomosaic, reference map, etc.)
RPAS Surveys and GPS and survey field work.
Host presentations and training sessions remotely and on site.
Troubleshoot issues and develop and implement solutions and workarounds.
Develop and document new and update existing procedures.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirments:
Diploma or degree in geographic information systems, cartography, or equivalent.
Valid class G driver's license.
2-5 years of GIS, Geomatics, or related experience.
2-5 years hands-on ArcGIS PRO experience.
Comfortable with ArcGIS Pro: Running GP tools, editing data, digitizing, converting/packaging data.
Familiarity with ArcGIS Portal/Online: Can publish services and build/edit web maps.
Some database background (querying data, creating tables/views, etc.)
Some basic scripting knowledge.
Strong computer skills, familiarity with MS Office, MS Access, and Excel.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
