Position Overview

Information Technologies invites applications for a GIS Analyst. This Full-time Limited Term (Project) position is for approximately 9 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position is within the Geospatial Services team (Applications and Web Services) in Information Technologies, reporting to the Manager, Data Analytics. The position will require working closely with staff and a multitude of internal and external stakeholders (e.g. academic, students, and contractors).

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Tasks may vary from week to week, depending on operational priorities, and will include, but not be limited to
  • Working on a range of data management tasks, such as data creation and conversion, verification of data sources and accuracy, as well as documentation (metadata)
  • Creation of custom mapping products
  • Assisting with system and application configurations, deployments, testing and maintenance
  • Supporting operational units with data gathering and verification
  • Assisting GIS users with software, licensing and system access inquiries and issues
  • Learning other skills fundamental to operating a high-functioning GIS environment.
  • Work on other projects and perform related duties as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of a degree or diploma program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, or related field
  • 2 years of professional experience relating to GIS
  • Strong computer literacy in the Microsoft Windows environment
  • Previous experience working within an operational GIS environment
  • Familiarity with GIS data management best practices across the entire data lifecycle â€" from collection, conversions, storage and sharing, to quality control and long-term data preservation
  • Appreciation of and commitment to implementing and following data management, design and service standards
  • Familiarity with utility, infrastructure and architectural data, in various analog and digital formats
  • Ability to address common client requests in a timely fashion and troubleshoot the more complex issues using available resources
  • Great organizational skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Proactive, willing to seek out information or guidance if there is ambiguity
  • Strong attention to detail and error-free content
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with a variety of clients on campus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional attitude
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal form
  • Knowledge of IT service management workflows will be beneficial to this position
  • Positive attitude towards learning skills required to be successful in this position
  • This position requires a general knowledge of the university, its culture and operating procedures
  • ITIL certification an asset
