General Labourer

Job Purpose and Objectives


The laborer is responsible for assisting in the timely and technical execution of direct pipe installations, as a part of the operations team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with Site & Equipment setup
  • Operate power/hand tools/painting
  • Pull and install tunneling utility lines (electrical cables, slurry lines, vitaulics etc)
  • Rig, hoist, and direct lifting equipment
  • Participate in daily site meetings, and shift crossover meetings
  • Load and unload trucks
  • Sign tools and materials out, and report to the Warehouse Coordinator when supplies are low
  • Maintain, clean, and refurbish equipment
  • Participate in safety inspections
  • Able to work in confined spaces
  • Fill out the required paperwork, such as Field Level Hazard Assessments
  • Knowledge & ability to operate air compressors, pumps, arial lift, generators, etc.

  • Understanding how the machine works
  • Be able to connect the machine from start to finish
  • The ability to determine the necessary tools for assigned tasks
  • The ability to troubleshoot a problem based on experience and applicable trade knowledge

Qualifications

  • Education – Grade 12 or GED equivalent
  • Experience – experience in pipeline construction, and exposure to Direct Pipe Installation and/or microtunneling technology

Physical Demand

  • Prolonged standing, walking, and/or sitting
  • Use of hands to handle/feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and walk on uneven ground
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Capability to work in confined spaces is required
  • Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside

Other Relevant Information

  • This position is assigned to the Yard and to field locations during operations
  • Drug and Alchol clearance/Fitness for Work clearance
  • Travel is required in this position
