On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.

Work environment

Candidates must be willing to work in a correctional environment where ongoing contact with federally sentenced inmates will be necessary.

Provision of assistance in the preparation, distribution and service of meals and preparation and distribution of groceries to offenders in an institution of the Correctional Service of Canada or a Regional Food Production Centre (RFPC).

Training of offenders in the area of Food Services to improve their employability skills and behaviours.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this selection process and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, various linguistic profiles as well as various security clearances within the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), Ontario Region.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
For GS-FOS-03 and GS-FOS-02 positions:
Recent experience working in food services within a commercial or institutional setting

Note: The above experience may have been obtained while serving as a member in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

For GS-FOS-03 positions only:
Experience in the preparation and distribution of short order cooking

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of food preparation and service techniques (e.g. portion control, measuring ingredients, operating kitchen equipment etc)
Knowledge of preparation and food handling procedures
Knowledge of workplace safety requirements, hygiene and sanitation practices
Knowledge of safe lifting and carrying techniques

ABILITIES
Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations accurately
