The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is now accepting applications for a part time Fitness Centre Staff position. The ideal candidate should be energetic, self-motivated, and have previous knowledge of exercise equipment and form. This individual should have a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or within a team.

Availability: Must be flexible, weekdays, weekends, evenings and vacation coverage, up to 25 hours per week

Nature and Scope

To provide a safe and friendly environment while efficiently serving members and guests in the Fitness Centre

Key Responsibilities

· Supervises safe operation of Fitness Centre equipment

· Provides orientations and fitness programs for members

· Provides tours of the facility for new members

· Monitors the Fitness Center for potential hazards and ensures proper member etiquette is maintained

· Delivers excellent customer service by greeting and acknowledging all members, answering questions, and offering assistance

· Maintains a clean and safe environment by inspecting and cleaning equipment, and ensuring there is adequate cleaning supplies

· Responds effectively to any emergency situations that may arise – Manager on Duty roles at times

· The ability and willingness to approach participants in a non-threatening manner to correct form, offer suggestions and diffuse potential volatile situations

· Assist members with spotting or lifting weights.

· Ability to demonstrate proper form while demonstrating exercises

· Maintain a high level of cleanliness of facility by completing daily cleaning checklist

Minimum Qualifications

· High School Diploma or Equivalent

· Strong understanding of fitness through previous personal/job experiences

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Exceptional customer service skills

· Enthusiastic, friendly, and positive demeanor

· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively

· Excellent customer service skills; ability to promote member engagement

Mandatory Requirements

· Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification

· Current Police Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check
