Financial Controller Job at Norwood Sawmills

The Opportunity:
As the in-house financial expert, the Financial Controller is an operational and business-focused financial leader, with the ability to develop and execute all policies and practices relating to financial activities.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will be responsible for developing and implementing appropriate financial and operational controls, accounting policies and procedures, and monthly reporting metrics for business leaders. The Controller will act as a liaise with other departments and business leaders to improve the budgeting process and utilization of financial metrics for key business strategic decisions.

Your Top Priorities:

  • Ensure that proper financial and operational controls are in place
  • Develop and implement sound accounting policies, controls, and procedures
  • Advance and analyze monthly reporting metrics and other required analysis for equity partner reporting
  • Ensure the continued strength of, or amplify, the growth of the Company's profitability and enterprise value
  • Maintain an intimate understanding of the business, product/service offerings, market and customer characteristics, operations and quality management
  • Working with senior management, contribute to developing, and lead the implementation of, ambitious strategic, organization and operating plans to meet the business' and shareholders' goals and objectives
  • Evaluate the business's state, identify issues, and advise on the impact of long-range planning and growth strategies
  • Participate in due diligence strategies and M&A analysis of potential acquisition targets
  • Continually improve the budgeting process by educating senior leaders/managers on financial issues impacting their budgets

What it Takes to Succeed:

  • University degree or College diploma in business administration / accounting
  • CPA designation, or working towards, preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in an accounting department
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, logistics or CPG setting, preferred
  • Proven experience in developing, presenting and implementing strategic plans and budgets at a senior level
  • Strong computer skills and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using ERP system, NetSuite, an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Reliable, organized and able to focus attention on details
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, while collaborating with the Finance team and cross-departmentally
  • Willingness to work in-office approximately 4 days/week
