The National Wildlife Centre is a non-profit organization that works within the interconnection of humans, Canadian wildlife and the environment through a OneHealth concept. We help native wildlife through our programs aimed at conservation goals to protect ecosystems, populations of wild animals, and the health of individual animals. The Interim Executive Director (ED) is a key leader of the National Wildlife Centre (NWC) and is responsible for overseeing the fundraising, administration, strategic planning, and programs (excluding the program activity under the Medical Director’s purview). The ED should demonstrate outstanding leadership of volunteers, staff, and key stakeholders in order to advance the Mission of the NWC. Other key duties include marketing and community outreach. The position reports to the Board of Directors, with day- to-day direct reporting to the President/Medical Director. We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated and detail-oriented, with a deep connection to wildlife conservation and the environment to fill this term position.
Qualifications/Experience of Successful Candidate:
- A minimum of two years of work experience in a role related to project management;
 
- Fundraising experience is preferred and would be an asset to this position;
 
- Non-profit board experience would be preferred;
 
- A degree in environmental studies or related field, or equivalent work experience would be an asset;
 
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and virtual platforms, specifically Zoom;
 
- Expertise using and posting on Social Media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter);
 
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
 
- Excellent ability to multi-task and manage multiple competing priorities;
 
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team;
 
- Exceptional organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail;
 
- High degree of professionalism in dealing with diverse groups of people, including Board members, senior executives, staff, community leaders, donors, and partners; and
 
- A willingness to travel, as required (Caledon area).
 
Responsibilities: 
This dynamic position requires key leadership and the ability to execute tasks in order to advance the mission of the National Wildlife Centre. The Interim Executive Director will be responsible for leading and overseeing fundraising, administration and programs that carry out the organization’s mission, specifically:
Fundraising
- Manage a portfolio of existing supporters, including ongoing stewardship, recognition (e.g., thank you cards), and reporting;
 
- Lead all fundraising efforts, including the development of the wildlife hospital fundraising initiative, and secure the annual fundraising target;
 
- Identify, research, evaluate and respond to new funding prospects as part of achieving annual revenue targets;
 
- Responsible for grant writing and ensuring grant commitments are completed on time and within budget, including timely follow-up reports to granting organizations; and
 
- Other duties as assigned by the NWC Board of Directors.
 
Program Management 
We are in the process of building a new hospital (both a temporary and a permanent structure), so the
Interim Executive Director will:
- Lead the ongoing development of our wildlife hospital initiative by gathering in-kind donations for the field hospital, as well as recruiting, supervising and managing volunteers;
 
- Lead the building committee (e.g., facilitate regular meetings, ensure timelines are met, etc.);
 - Track and manage work plans for the development of the new hospital;
 - Act as a key liaison with architects, engineers, and the City of Caledon; and
 - Other duties as assigned by the NWC Board of Directors.
 
Organization Operations
- Manage operations effectively;
 - Operate and track the annual budget;
 - Oversee marketing and other communications efforts;
 - Promote the image of NWC by seeking opportunities to work with professional, civic and private organizations;
 - Update the NWC website on a regular, and timely basis;
 - Draft and post social media content (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter, etc.);
 - Develop newsletters and other communication materials to support donor development;
 - Create the annual calendar;
 - Recruit, lead and manage competent, qualified volunteers;
 
- Lead and oversee committee meetings (e.g., fundraising, gala, volunteer, building, etc.);
 - In conjunction with the Medical Director, serve as NWC’s primary spokesperson, to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public;
 - Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance NWC’s Mission;
 - Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to- day operation of the non-profit, as needed;
 - Develop annual reports and quarterly newsletters to support donor development;
 - Present status updates to the Board of Directors on a regular basis;
 - Review and approve contracts for services; and
 - Other duties as assigned by the NWC Board of Directors.
 
The Interim Executive Director will report directly to the NWC President/Medical Director and the Board of
Directors.
