Rocky Point Engineering is a highly successful Mechanical Consulting Engineering firm with 8 offices across British Columbia. We are seeking a self-motivated mechanical Design Technologist or Design Engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of building energy modelling/simulation to join our engineering team, who is able to work out of any of our eight office locations.

Locations: Vancouver, Langley, Victoria, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nelson & new location Smithers, BC

We are looking to obtain an enthusiastic, talented team player to continue growing the energy modelling component of our mechanical consulting services. The applicant must be detail oriented, love challenges and enjoy contributing to the success of the team in a progressive work environment.

Responsibilities:

The main Responsibilities will include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Work as a member of the mechanical project design team
  • Prepare building energy modelling calculations and reports for BC Building Code Compliance, Step Code Compliance and BC Hydro and Fortis New Construction Programs
  • Liaise and communicate with clients and other consultants for energy modelling inputs and results
  • Provide energy performance advice and options to clients and the design team to meet or exceed energy performance targets

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering (EIT, P.Eng); preferably with relevant designations such as Certified Energy Advisor (CEA)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the mechanical engineering and/or energy modelling and sustainability field
  • Be familiar with building energy modelling software such as eQuest, Energy Plus and IES
  • Have a strong understanding of mechanical building systems, electrical systems and building envelope concepts including thermal bridging
  • Be familiar with energy codes such as ASHRAE 90.1-2016, NECB 2015 and BC Energy Code Step Code requirements and the City of Vancouver Energy Modelling Guidelines
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to present energy modelling results to the client and consulting team
