Job Title: Job Developer/Employment Counsellor/Facilitator
Job Status: 1-Year Temporary Position (Maternity Leave)

35 Hours a Week; Monday to Thursday 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Rate of Pay: $28.53 per hour
Reports To: Manager of Skills Development & Employment

The function of the Job Developer/Employment Counsellor/Facilitator is to provide support and programming to job seekers in the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County. This role works with highly barriered job seekers to unlock their potential and inspire hope in their future.
Providing skill development, coaching and wraparound supports that address specific challenges, such as life stabilization, mental health and addiction, outdated skillset, extended periods of unemployment, and workplace accessibility and accommodations. The goal of the
Job Developer/Employment Counsellor/Facilitator is to encourage positive motivation in the job seeker, increase knowledge and confidence and when necessary, refer to community supports for added strength. With employment being the main objective, the Job Developer/Employment
Counsellor/Facilitator works to reduce fears and anxieties in the job seeker and when necessary, advocate to employers on the job seekers behalf.

  • Development and delivery of program materials. Work collaboratively to identify, develop, and deliver relevant workshops and skills building programs.
  • Develop and implement communications and social media strategies, particularly as it relates to this component of the project.

  • Responsible for any necessary data collections and reporting needed as required by the funder.
  • Identify and assess the needs of job seekers, with a view of developing matched supports.
  • Recognize and develop opportunities to engage employers in other community initiatives.
  • Promote social equity in the workplace.
  • Support table administration, community engagement, and relationship building with diverse stakeholders in the local community with a focus on equity and inclusion and addressing priority issues/actions.
  • Provide services through relevant technology and other relevant outlets.
  • Ability to provide services in both individual and group settings.
  • Refer internally, individuals in need of other services provided by the John Howard

Society.

  • Assist the agency in program development through the identification of service gaps.
  • Ensure that services delivered are efficient and effective through an outcome evaluation model.
  • Participate in agency/staff committees as time allows.
  • Assist the agency in maintaining accessible, relevant, responsive, and quality services.
  • Deliver services in a way that reflects the racial, cultural, linguistic, and gender specific needs of the community being served.
  • Assist agency in maintaining accessible, relevant, responsive services.
  • To provide ongoing counselling and case management services
  • Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately. Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Related post-secondary education and/or equivalent combination of education and related experience in a multi-level non-profit organization, or similar levels of employment-related services.
  • Minimum of 3-years' experience in delivering programs one-on-one.
  • Thorough knowledge of community services and support programs for those involved, or at risk of being involved, in the justice system (e.g., shelters, addiction, mental health, social services, etc.).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the community, resources, and relevant job trends.
  • Ability to mentor and motivate others.
  • Exceptional communication and project management skills.
  • Experience in facilitating collaborative work and partnering with other agencies.
  • An understanding of working collaboratively and building partnerships within the community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to accurately record information for the funder.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet program needs.
  • Ability to provide outreach to ensure expected program outcomes.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Solid professional boundaries.
  • Recent vulnerable sector criminal record check.
