About the job:

This is Installation technician role within a mining environment in Fort MacKay, AB. You will be part of team that performs telecom installation on a fleet of heavy mining equipment and support equipment. You will be working in support shops, mining areas throughout both Syncrude’s Mildred Lake and Aurora sites.

Responsabilities

  • Performs installations, preventative & corrective maintenance of base, mobile, and portable two way radios and accessory equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and specifications.
  • Performs installation, configuration and maintenance of Dispatch Consoles and network transport according to manufacturer recommendations and specifications.
  • Performs installs, repairs and maintains microwave radio, and point to point communications systems.
  • Assists in the planning and designing of new installations, systems, and equipment.
  • Provides technical expertise in the consideration of equipment and system needs and concerns.
  • Performs periodic frequency sweeps to identify potential problems and/or radio interference.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team with a broad range of duties and work effectively without direct supervision.
  • Maintain Radio Asset management Database. Ensure that all entries are accurate and address andy deficiency.
  • Submission of Permits and ensure their accuracy and closed out in a timely fashion.
  • Assist Supervisors to estimates a new work and ensure efficiencies and acceptable to standard.
  • Ensure materials and resources are organized to efficiently manage projects
  • Promote the Safety Culture and ensure all Front-Line Supervisor requirements are fulfilled.
  • Provide status reporting on work orders.
  • Provide Assitance to other system that our group is maintaining when needed. (PAGA/Access Control/Fibre/CCTV/Gas Monitoring/Mining Contorl System)

Qualifications

  • Electronics Engineering Technologist / Communications Technologist or graduate from a similar program, Equivalencies of experience will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
  • Experience in troubleshooting/repairing digital trunked radio systems, and PTP/PMP Radio system.
  • Intermediate level of understanding of internet protocols (Routing, VLan/s Subnets).
  • Minimum of 1 year tower climb and AWP experience is a must.
  • Computer Literacy (Intermediate proficiency using Windows, Microsoft office and other Microsoft base software).
  • Minimum of 2 years experience of Trunked system and PTP radios.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Motorola P25 experience is an asset.
  • Follow the industry’s standards and best practices.
  • Ability to review system drawings and complete redlines.
  • Installation background in Telecommunications is an asset.

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
