In 1973 Jürgen Raberg started out by manufacturing leather pants;

Back then, Jürgen manned the sewing machine alone. He developed proficiency in leather and established, built and advanced his company as he continued into developing leather jackets. Over time, he built the business to be the dominant player in the German and ultimately European market.

Today his daughter and son Katrin and Christian Raberg, the second generation of the family, have taken over the reins of the company with a plan to extend the company’s command of the leather industry to points outside Europe. what we are about….

All of the leather we use are by-products of the meat industry, this applies to lambfur also. No animals are killed for their skins. Mauritius does not use exotic animals which are killed for their skins and actively ensures the above statement.

The topic of sustainability is an integral part of our company philosophy. A team of 16
Mauritius workers, based in 4 cities in Pakistan, check and stamp every single garment before it is shipped. We continually monitor for harmful substances and the production facilities are regularly checked by the BSCI to ensure compliance with social standards.

Our styles are tanned without the use of Chrome III as a tanning agent, instead we used plant extracts. This is important as chrome can cause damage to the environment, the dye to not set well causing crocking as well as disputed health issues to humans.

Vegetable tanning is much better for the environment, with no harmful effects to the local water systems.

The soft lamb leather is a high grade of lambskin. The jackets are vegetable washed and special waxes, paints and finishes are applied by hand or by spray, or dip-dye and polished or buffed to give it the look and soft touch. Distressing is accomplished with rubbing metallic or washed finishes, paints, oils and tints to the seams.

All pieces are hand-made, one by one. Slight inconsistencies in colour confirm the high quality of the skins and are to be expected.

In general, the European modern fit and is more narrow than some North American competitors. You will find that it fits a little bit narrower than what you may be used to.

We have three separate fits:

Regular fit – our standard fit

Slimfit – slightly narrower in the sleeve and chest

Comfort fit – our more generous fit through the chest and arms and length.

Tumble washed pieces can be slightly inconsistent in fit as the pieces are heavily washed after production and shrinkage is less controllable.

how to care for leather…

We have a hangtag on every jacket with the following text:

As a natural grown product each leather garment is unique. Washing and special treatments as such as handpainting, waxing and oiling increase this uniqueness.

All tanned animal hides are unique in their composition, their thickness, in the way they react to dyeing and processing.

Irregularities of the hides like pigmentations marks, vein marks and insect punctures are characteristics which attest the authenticity of the leather.

Deviation in colour, crimpling of the seams, colour abrasion at the edges, individual painted seams and areas are designedly and no reason for claims

Leather garments should be protected from intensive source of light. A certain colour abrasion should be considered normal.

If leather gets too wet, dry it slowly. Speed drying leather changes its chemical structure, and you end up with stiff crinkle cut chaos. So room temperature drying with gentle air works better than direct heater time with hair-dryer. Flat dry and shape it as you want it to end up.

If leather gets too dry: Rub something moist into it. Pick a leather dressing or cream, preferably recommended by the maker. Mauritius recommends Collonil. www.collonil.com Leathers can have paints, waxes, oils and all sorts of things applied to their surface, so you probably want to pick something similar to how it was originally treated. If leather gets dirty: just use a damp cloth. You don’t want to be putting any soaps or foreign substances on it.

Leather stretches out, but not back: If you start to overfill a wallet, it will never really return to its former taut self. If you stretch a leather bag when wet or very humid, it will stretch even further. Just learn to treat it right and it will last for many years.

Don’t wrap it in plastic: Going back to that Cryovac analogy, it can help to think of leather as having the life frozen rather than completely killed. We all need a bit of air, and so does your leather. What you’re really trying to stop is any mildew growth, so keep some ventilation going www.mauritiusleather.com
