About the role

We are currently seeking a Director, IT Financial Controls, Group & North America to play a key role in supporting our growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan 52-109 financial compliance work: strategy development (scope of work) and establishment of timelines for the 52-109 IT (ITGC) general controls certification process.

  • Ensure appropriate key ITGCs are identified and corresponding documentation is updated.

  • See to the timely execution of 52-109 key ITGC testing (design and operating efficiency), including appropriate test strategy, test result quality, assessment of deficiencies and communication of results.

  • Provide support to business units in developing their action plans to address identified deficiencies in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that the IT financial controls team is involved in the company’s major implementation and integration projects to oversee implementation of the required ITGCs.

  • Coordinate the scope of work and the testing schedule with external auditors to maximize their use of the work performed by the IT financial controls team.

  • Actively seek to improve ways of working and encourage the development and implementation of practices and tools to optimize processes and work methods in accordance with NI 52-109 standards and best practices, including development of the team’s data analysis function.

  • Balance business needs, compliance and best practices across the above-mentioned activities.

  • Establish and maintain good relationships with the various stakeholders (business units, IT services, internal and external auditors), including higher levels of management.

  • Work closely with the Director, Financial Controls, Group & North America to maximize synergies between the two teams, including the use of data analytics.

  • Effectively and promptly share with the Group Head of Financial Controls, external auditors and control owners the results of 52-109 ITGC tests, including the status and schedule of the work.

  • Prepare reports for senior management and the audit committee.

  • Develop and manage a team of professionals, including hiring, performance evaluation, salary recommendations, training, career development and timely coaching.

  • Support the Group Head of Financial Controls in the development and achievement of department objectives.

Your skills and abilities:

  • 10 to 12 years of internal or external IT, 52-109 or SOX audit experience in an accounting firm, preferably a Big 4 or large company, or equivalent work experience

  • Strong personnel management experience (personnel supervision, including performance management and career development)

  • Outstanding knowledge of ITGCs and the COBIT5/ITGC framework

  • CISA certification (an asset)

  • CPA professional designation (an asset)

  • Knowledge of accounting standards and financial controls (an asset)

  • Experience in the insurance and investment industry (an asset)

  • Outstanding ability to positively influence and motivate people towards a common goal

  • Outstanding ability to maintain a holistic view and manage priorities to focus on what is important

  • Outstanding interpersonal, teamwork and relationship-building skills

  • High level of accountability, integrity, agility and transparency

  • Bilingual, oral and written (English and French)
