Safehaven serves individuals with disabilities and their families, through respite and residential programs at our Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Woodbridge, Thornhill, and Aurora facilities.

Role Summary:

The Director, Clinical Programs and Quality & Safety is a critical leadership position reporting directly to the CEO of Safehaven. This role is responsible for overseeing the organization's day-to-day operations and professional practices, ensuring the highest quality of care and safety for Safehaven's clients and their families. The Director provides strategic guidance to the Program/Operations Team and professional practice team, overseeing program development, planning, quality and safety, compliance, and resource allocation. The Director, Clinical Programs and Quality works closely with the Director, Clinical Programs and Client Relations & members of the Board Quality, Safety and Risk committee.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance to the CEO on program development, quality and safety, planning, and compliance issues, making recommendations on major program decisions.
  • Support and advance board Quality, Safety and Risk Committee strategic directions
  • Optimize resource allocation among programs, locations, and residences to ensure the highest quality of care and safety for Safehaven’s clients and their families.
  • Oversee the organization-wide Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs, establishing effective measures and procedures to promote the health and safety of clients, families, and employees.
  • Collaborate with the Safehaven Social Worker to assist with the internal and external complaints procedure.
  • Coordinate all activities to ensure compliance with the Ministry of Children, Community & Social Services Quality Assurance Measures (QAM) and Licensing requirements.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with the CEO, staff, and outside agencies.
  • Provide ongoing updates to the CEO on key program activities, potential threats, opportunities, and operating policies to support Safehaven's objectives.
  • Present and/or participate in committees that support the work of the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure the highest standards of quality of care and safety are maintained for clients and families using Safehaven's facilities and staff.
  • Champion Safehaven's Accreditation, Quality Assurance, and Ministerial Licensing processes and the organization's quality and safety mandate.
  • Ensure that locations pass all licensing requirements, and that staff are adequately prepared and trained for annual licensing inspections, providing all necessary employee documentation to Human Resources.
  • Develops programs for clients to enhance Quality of Care and Safety and develop more involved activities for the clients and families.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • A master’s degree in nursing, business administration, healthcare leadership, or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of professional nursing practice, including at least five (5) years of nursing management/supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with clients who have multiple medically complex disabilities is preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop and use metrics for program evaluation.
  • An energetic, organized leader with the ability to stay on task with multiple priorities.
  • Understanding of the interface between nursing practice and information technologies; the ability to promote the effective use of information systems and to gain relevant information about nursing practice and nursing process.
