We are looking to hire one (1) Engineering Co-op student to perform a variety of tasks related to the Utility's Electrical Distribution System in our Engineering & Stations Department.

This position is for an eight (8) month work term (September 5, 2023 to April 26, 2024) with a potential for extension up to one (1) year work term.

ACTIVITIES/TASKS:


  • Assist with preparation and design of underground and overhead distribution systems, street lighting systems, and customer services in accordance with established standards
  • Prepare service design layouts necessary for the co-ordination and connection of residential customers by applying engineering design practices, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Produce drawings for the electrical distribution system from field data and designs supplied by others
  • Update record systems from as built drawings and field data
  • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates and material lists
  • Assist with customer inquiries
  • Other duties as required

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:


  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Technology program (Electrical or Energy Systems). Technician candidates will NOT be considered
  • Preference will be given to those applicants who have previous utility or industrial experience in power systems, civil construction and/or are considering a career in the Electrical Utility
  • Very computer literate and proficient in use of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office
  • Some tasks may involve driving a company vehicle, a valid Class G driver's license is required
  • Physical ability to work in an office and outside environment

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:


  • Reports to the Engineering Supervisor
  • Work procedures are well defined and carried out under the direction of the Supervisor
  • The incumbent is expected to solve routine problems and assistance is readily available

AUTHORITY GIVEN:


  • Is responsible for own work only

  • Level of AutoCAD experience outside of school courses or projects (in an employment setting).
