Job Overview

Reporting to the Site Superintendent, the General Foreperson is responsible for overseeing daily operations at a worksite to ensure the completion of projects in an efficient manner. Their duties include hiring construction workers and trade professionals, monitoring budgeting expenses, as well as reviewing laws by regulating safety on-site while maintaining it throughout all stages. This position also entails the requirement to provide technical assistance to field staff and coordinate project requirements with the Site Superintendent, Project Coordinator, Designer, Fabrication Shop and all other team members when required.

A successful Construction Foreman will constantly plan for their crew's success by providing them with clear instructions on what they need at every step of the process as well as ample training so everyone can do his or her part properly. Participation in regular site project meetings is mandatory as well as preparation of daily production reports.

A construction foreman has a solid background in the field. Your leadership skills and your extensive experience have earned you the ability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. You must be well-organized and favor safety above everything else.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans
  • Produce schedules and monitor attendance of crew
  • Allocate general and daily responsibilities
  • Supervise and train workers and tradespeople
  • Ensure manpower and resources are adequate
  • Review individual crew daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for compliance, and attending weekly crew safety meetings to make sure all employees are engaged in conversation
  • Supervise the use of machinery and equipment
  • Interprete plans, blueprints, and sketches
  • Monitor expenditure and ensure it remains within budget
  • Resolve problems when they arise
  • Report on progress to managers, engineers etc.

Skills Required

  • Proven experience as a construction foreman
  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OSH guidelines
  • Understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate and report effectively
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to juggle multiple deadlines; attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • High school diploma or diploma in a skilled trade (electrician, carpenter etc.)
  • Minimum (5) five years prior experience with Leadership and Planning responsibilities in the construction industry.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and/or be on their feet 10-12 hours / day
  • Use proper lifting techniques for heavy pipes weighing more than 25 kilograms
  • Must be able to work in outdoor weather and/or unregulated temperatures for 10-12 hours / day
