Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our I&IT department is looking for a CO-OP Student to assist with the planning, implementation, and monitoring of technologies that support our GO Transit rail services. The CO-OP Students will work directly with our Senior Technology Manager and with internal stakeholders to provide analytical support in the completion of required tasks and deliverables.

What will I be doing?

  • Provides a variety of technical services to support the business which may include preparing reports, drafting technical documents (cartoons & architecture diagrams); support the technology manager in other technical tasks required to delivery initiatives;
  • Develops spreadsheets, forms, and databases to input, track, store and retrieve data
  • Recommends improvements to existing processes and procedures to achieve greater efficiency
  • Maintain up-to-date operating statistics for GO Rail network
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to collect data, respond to queries and exchange information
  • Help produce daily/weekly/monthly operational documentation and reports, as assigned
  • Perform assigned technical/professional/administrative duties
  • Provide assistance and support to staff in a variety of areas, including gathering, inputting, organizing, and interpreting data for reports/presentations/meetings/projects
  • Prepare agendas, coordinate, attend, and take minutes for daily technical/operational meetings
  • Assist in the production and formatting of operational documentation (e.g. public-facing and internal timetables)

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Must be attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment
  • Enrolled in a technology or engineering program at a post-secondary institution
  • Interest in rail transportation and transit/operational planning is a strong asset
  • A willingness to learn while being exposed to all aspects of technology that support Operational Planning & Service Design
  • Previous experience working within a business environment is preferred
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Competence in software such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to co-operate and assist other co-workers with various projects
