Southmount Family Practice is looking to hire a Medical Clerk to successfully provide administrative, technical and resource support for internal staff and Primary Care Physicians. The ideal candidate will use considerable tact and diplomacy in performing a variety of clerical functions in the support of client/patient care. This is a fast-paced environment where independent thinking and good teamwork qualities are a must. Excellent time management and ability to multitask are critical to the success of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly answers and returns all phone calls and incoming inquires in a professional and non-judgmental manner.
  • Aid patients and visitors when they arrive in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Verifies patient demographics ensuring accuracy and avoiding duplication.
  • Daily input (faxes) and retrieval of information in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patients (via phone or walk-in).
  • Contact patients to book a recall appointment to discuss results as instructed by Physician.
  • Helps the billing office by informing patients of outstanding accounts and directing patients to the billing office for payment prior to seeing a physician.
  • Retrieve consult reports, lab reports and diagnostic reports when requested by Physician or clinical staff.
  • Keep up to date with appointment reminder calls.
  • Support with physician mail ensuring incoming mail has been date stamped.
  • Assist and support the Physician as required.
  • Performs cross-functional responsibilities as required, performing other duties consistent with the job classification, within Primary Care and other areas of the building. These duties are not limited to and may include triage and placing patients in examination rooms.

  • Must be detailed oriented and possess the ability to detect errors and irregularities quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high proficiency in English. Demonstrates an exceptional phone manner.
  • Exude professional image, good public relations, and mature approach to customer service.
  • Multi-task oriented, a quick learner and possess the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information in a mature and professional manner.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, successful completion of Grade 12.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in keyboarding and typing skills.
  • Previous experience with EMR an asset. Practice Solutions knowledge is an asset.
  • Proficient in Windows and/or other clinic software.
  • Medical Office Administration education (medical terminology) or equivalent work-related experience a must.
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a like Primary Care environment.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 15 per week

Salary: From $17.00 per hour
