The Community and Family Services Supervisor (CFS) provides operational direction and supervision to the Community and Family Services division at Cranbrook in the East Kootenay Circuit, including liaising with community partners to facilitate service delivery, organizing food delivery activities, operating family programs, overseeing hot meal program offered by The Salvation Army, and leading annual Christmas programs.

Hours:

  • Full Time
  • 32 hours per week

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the supervision of the Community & Family Services Staff and functions, including food bank, feeding / breakfast programs.
  • Organize and supervise Community & Family Services Christmas Services—Christmas kettles, Christmas Hampers, Christmas Toy Shoppe and Hope for All Seasons Fundraising campaign.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the hot meal program.
  • Support and assist with Emergency Disaster Response and provide EDS training for volunteers and employees.
  • Secure timely media coverage & interviews of Corps Officer or designate for Community & Family Services programs, i.e., Christmas Kettles, Hamper fund and Food Bank.
  • Provide input on standards, policies, and procedures relating to areas this position oversees.
  • Embrace the mission of The Salvation Army, East Kootenay Circuit and the Community & Family Services
  • Provide input on the Annual Performance Review for direct reports.
  • Apprise the CMD of staffing concerns and issues.
  • Make recommendations to the CMD regarding hiring and dismissal proposals.
  • Will assist the CMD in conducting employment interviews.
  • Will work to recruit, coordinate, and schedule volunteers.
  • Recommend and arrange for ongoing staff training.
  • Assure that Community and Family Services employees satisfactorily complete all responsibilities.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety Committee functions according to appropriate SA & legislative requirements.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in SA Employee Relations Policy Manual and comply with accreditation standards.
  • Identify, secure, and apply for new funding sources that will advance and adhere to the Salvation Army standards and programs.
  • Liaise/Network with relevant community agencies to complete grant and other funding requests, provide feedback to agencies.
  • Aid in the preparation and submission of payroll for all employees to DHQ.
  • Prepare annual budgets in consultation with bookkeeper as approved by the CMD for DHQ approval submission.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of Community & Family Services statistical reports to Divisional Headquarters
  • Maintain and update established written policies and procedures for Community & Family Services and employee handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of two (2) years post-secondary education in a relevant field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Computer literacy (Window, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Fiscal and managerial experience will be considered as an asset

  • Ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Lead by example, demonstrate a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
  • Experience in direct staff supervision.
