CBT Therapist, Ontario Structured Psychotherapy

Right now, many in our community are struggling with their mental health.

As a CBT Therapist with the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) Program, you’ll help make a difference. OSP is dedicated to increasing access to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for those experiencing mild to moderate depression, anxiety, and anxiety-related conditions within our community and the Ontario West region. Elgin County priority populations include the 2SLGBTQ+ community, those without a primary care provider, and those with a history of trauma.

OSP West is jointly operated by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and St. Joseph’s Health Care London as one Network Lead Organization, the successful candidate will be employed by CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services.

In this role, you’ll deliver individual and group, protocol-based, structured psychotherapy both in person and online out of a variety of community sites.

To ensure you have the tools you need to deliver the best care possible, you’ll have the opportunity to attend intensive training in CBT skills and the program model, and will also participate in regular external consultation to establish high quality service delivery and cohesion with the OSP Model. As this training will be an investment, we’re asking successful candidates for a 2-year commitment.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • Starting rate – $31.04 - $32.22 per hour, based on proof of education level; on-shift mileage reimbursement
  • Hours - 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, some scheduled evening and weekend shift may also be required
  • Benefits:
    • After 90-day waiting period, enrollment in extended healthcare benefits

  • PSLRTA Notice - This posting characterizes this position as currently unionized under the Elgin Collective Agreement. However, please be aware that the organization on September 29, 2022, a vote was held as a result of an application by the Organization under the Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act. The result was that employees voted to award OPSEU bargaining rights for all employees. Until such time as a new collective agreement is finalized, current terms and conditions of employment and existing, applicable collective agreements, if any, will remain in force and effect.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

The program is highly structured and standardized across the province. Due to this, qualifications for the counsellor role are stipulated by our funder and Network Lead Organization including acceptable professional colleges. In addition to this, specific priority populations have been identified for each region.

We require the following qualifications:

  • Master’s, bachelor’s or equivalent graduate diploma that requires completion of a bachelor’s level program and has the practice of psychotherapy central to its program (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Registered member in good standing with one of the Colleges regulated to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy:
    • OCSWSSW
    • CNO
    • COTO
    • CRPO
    • CPO
  • Current, clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 required, with rare exemptions (medical reasons/religious grounds as recognized in the Ontario Human Rights Code)
  • Experience providing mental health/addictions treatment (2-3 years preferred), including:
    • Utilizing evidence-based CBT treatment models with clients experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and anxiety related conditions
    • Formal CBT and CPT training with appropriate supervision/clinical consultation preferred
    • Demonstrated experience providing culturally safe mental health services to clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds
    • Working in a community-based/outpatient setting
  • Proven proficiency with technology and software e.g. Microsoft Office, electronic health records

You’ll also need knowledge of:

  • The science and practice of individual and group-based psychotherapy, CBT, CPT and/or other evidence-based psychotherapies for treating clients with mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety
  • Distinguishing features and etiology of depression, anxiety, and related conditions
  • Strengths-based, trauma-informed, client-centered framework for mental health/addictions treatment
  • Motivational interviewing techniques
  • Intersectionality and social determinants of health
  • Teaching techniques for adult learning
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

You’ll be required to meet the following program requirements:

  • Regular clinical consultation, including regular submission of audio/video session recordings to the clinical consultant
  • Meeting daily session minimums, as outlined by OSP
  • Following OSP CBT protocols and measurement-based care approaches

We prefer the following qualifications:

  • For Elgin County, OSP West has identified priority for applicants who are part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community; or experience supporting this population
  • Experience with online learning systems and providing care virtually/by telephone
