Job description:

19K Design and Contracting Limited is a fast growing, dynamic construction and design company. We are a small, locally-owned, family run company, with a focus on residential work, looking for a highly motivated journeyman carpenter to join our team. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail, delivering an excellent finished product, and having a very happy and loyal client base.

The successful candidate will have a well rounded knowledge of all aspects of carpentry and with a good knowledge the building permits process, as well as some familiarity with the process for seeking development variance permits. We do everything from foundation repair and flood remediation, to detailed finishing work and ICF construction with an eye towards lowering our carbon footprint. We are beginning to shift our focus towards a greener approach to construction, and reducing waste, increasing the amount we recycle, and moving forward in a more sustainable and earth friendly way.The successful applicant will work with us in achieving that goal. In addition, they will have good interpersonal skills and will strive to always achieve high quality work, constantly keeping in mind their focus on their clients’ wishes and expectations. The applicant should be well organized, precise and accurate, a team player, able to work unsupervised, and motivated to expand trade-related skills.

Although we are aware of the dirt and disarray that often comes with construction work, the successful applicant will be skilled at keeping this to a minimum, and will be mindful of the impact that this can have on the families’ whose homes we are working in. The successful applicant will also be aware of the importance of crew and client safety in regards to a tidy work environment.

The successful applicant will be comfortable working at heights on occasion, will require her or his own reliable transportation, and have basic carpentry tools. We require you to bring your own steel toed boots, eye protection, and hard hat. The successful applicant will adhere fully to the company’s Exposure Control Plan policies, and will wear a face mask when required to minimize the risk of spreading Covid-19. Being in good physical condition is also important, as this is not a sedentary position.

Job Duties:

  • Construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures and components of structures.
  • Measure and mark cutting lines on materials. Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
  • Help erect, level and install building framework.
  • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures.
  • Shape or cut materials to specified measurements.
  • Read and interpret drawings, sketches and blueprints and apply that information to the creation of a structure that meets all necessary building codes and our clients’ vision.
  • Have a working knowledge of the BC Building Code.
  • Fit and install trim items, such as stairs, moulding and hardware.
  • Fit and install windows and doors.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations, including Covid19 specific protocol, and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

You must be able to manage a busy and physically demanding workload that involves a combination of sitting, standing, bending, crouching, kneeling, lifting, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, pushing, carrying materials, etc. for many hours a day. You will be required to work heights at times, withstand exposure to loud noise and dust, and often work outside, even during inclement weather.

Work Site Environment:

There will be deadlines that you will be expected to meet, and you will be expected to be punctual, professional, and demonstrate a strong work ethic while at the work site. Education and Experience:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Hold a valid Red Seal ticket in carpentry.
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal english communication.
