ROCK is delivering and expanding our Autism and Behavioural Services. We are seeking staff for our Foundational Family Services program. This program offers a variety of clinical and community programming to families in Halton Region. These services are offered in Burlington, Oakville and Milton, both in person and virtually. Foundational family services include community building offerings such a social drop ins and events, as individual services delivered through appointments with clients and their family, and educational webinars for caregivers


Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager (Board Certified Behaviour Analyst) of Autism Services, and/or the Clinical Supervisor (BCBA), the Behaviour Therapist Level 1 provides services based on the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). The Behaviour Therapist will work collaboratively with other disciplines and families using a virtual platform, in centre, classroom, home or community, as needed. The Behaviour Therapist is responsible for assessment, data collection, documentation preparation, data analysis, training others using the BST model, and working collaboratively with peers.


Please note that this is a casual contract position with a planned start date of June 5th, 2023 and a planned end date of March 31st, 2024.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide intervention to children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
  • Use the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to train families and service providers to address the needs that children/youth with ASD have in the areas of communication, social/interpersonal skills, daily living skills, behaviour management/self-regulation, play and leisure skills, vocational skills, etc.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of both individualized and group interventions under the supervision of a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA).
  • Conduct collaborative sessions with ROCK mental health service providers, in individualized and/or group formats.
  • Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care and, by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as any further health and safety responsibilities as outlined in agency policy and procedure documents.
  • Other duties as may reasonably be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS


Education
:


  • Post graduate diploma in the Behavioural Sciences field (e.g., BST diploma).
  • Preference for working towards master’s degree in ABA.

Experience:

  • At least two and a half years of experience delivering services using ABA with children and youth with an autism spectrum disorder, up to age 21, under the supervision of a BCBA or Registered Psychologist with experience in ABA.
  • Experience working with and programming for children and youth with communication challenges, social skills needs, daily living skills challenges, play and leisure skill needs, vocational skill needs, children and youth who engage in challenging behaviour, etc.
  • Experience writing behaviour plans in the areas of communication, maladaptive behaviour reduction, self-regulation, daily living skills, social skills, play and leisure skills, vocational skills etc., is an asset.
  • Experience training others (e.g., caregivers, service providers) to implement programs.
  • Experience providing family-centred practice.
  • Experience providing both group and individual ABA interventions.
  • Experience running workshops.
  • Training and experience implementing Early Start Denver Model is an asset.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a treatment team.
  • Computer literate (strong MS Word and Excel competencies are essential; expertise in the use of PowerPoint is an asset).

Additional Requirements:


  • Proficient in the use of technology and working in a virtual environment, as required of the position. MAC OS operating systems experience preferred.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and travel within the Halton Region in alignment with the program needs.
  • Access to reliable transportation in alignment with the program needs.
  • Current (within the last three months) criminal reference check, including vulnerable sector search.
