Bring your vision, leadership and strategic planning skills to this important role

The ministry delivers a range of legislative authorities and provides clients with a single point of access to natural resource authorizations and resource management services at many locations across the province. Regional Operations, the operational delivery arm of the ministry, is structured as 23 districts within eight regions under the leadership of three geographically based Assistant Deputy Ministers.

This position is an integral part of the Regional Management Team, composed of Directors, District Managers and BC Timber Sales Managers, reporting to the Regional Executive Director (RED). In this capacity, the position serves regional and provincial priorities and goals and provincial initiatives in delivering an integrated approach in provincial land management, responsible for stewardship of provincial crown land, cultural and natural resources, authorizations and for maintaining and supporting BC’s Market Pricing System

The position develops and maintains a broad network of strategic and business leadership relationships across the Natural Resource Sector agencies to provide leadership in implementation of collaborative agreements and tactical Forest Landscape Planning (FLP) initiatives within the Northeast Region and promote successful delivery of the priorities and goals of the Ministry of Forests.

Working closely with the Regional Management Team, the position ensures that tactical landscape plans can be implemented in a way that supports the mandate of the ministry by supporting the production and supply of timber, protection and conservation of the environment, managing the values placed on ecosystems by all communities and managing the significant disturbances to forest health. This requires strong leadership and collaboration across the Regional Management Committee and including natural resource sector partners, Indigenous nations, harvest licensees and stakeholders to provide operational clarity that can lead to effective decisions and desired outcomes.

The position requires a pragmatic, doer centric approach with excellent cultural awareness, problem solving, communication and change management skills with the ability to exercise a high degree of judgement in an environment of constant change, business transformation and shifting roles and responsibilities. Conflict resolution, strong results focus, and issues mediation skills are also an important component of the position to successfully address and balance competing priorities within and external to government.
