Department/Faculty Summary

Alliance for Canadian Health Outcomes Research in Diabetes (ACHORD) is a nationally and internationally recognized diabetes research group (www.achord.ca).

Alberta PROMs & EQ-5D Research and Support Unit (APERSU) is an intermediary office that connects the EuroQol Foundation with non-commercial users of EQ-5D instruments and other patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in the province of Alberta (www.apersu.ca).

Both ACHORD and APERSU are under the umbrella of the School of Public Health, University of Alberta.

Position Summary

The School of Public Health at the University of Alberta is offering a Research Assistant position, which will be supported by the Alberta PROMs and EQ-5D Research Support Unit (APERSU).

The Research Assistant will provide research support in a casual position for the APERSU team. The Research Assistant will work in a collaborative setting with principal investigators, research associates, project coordinators and other research assistants.

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will primarily support the project “Exploring Validity of the EQ-5D-5L in Indigenous People of Canada”. The successful candidate will demonstrate lived Indigenous experience and have a desire and ability to work and learn within a research context with Indigenous people.

Duties

  • Work collaboratively and relationally with team members.
  • Assist with literature review, data collection, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Assist with community engagement, including co-developing and co-facilitating community gatherings or information-sharing sessions.
  • Work collaboratively to prepare and disseminate findings both written and orally.
  • Assist with additional projects as identified by the APERSU team, which may include activities such as contacting participants, booking interviews, data entering, data analysis and checking, manuscript editing, report writing, and reference management.
  • Attend and participate in research study and group meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in a social, health, psychology, or related field is required; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (MS word, excel).
  • Ability to perform work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with University of Alberta policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Priority will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a lived Indigenous experience with excellence and Aboriginal community relevance in their program(s) of research; an Indigenous/Aboriginal worldview in their contemporary lives; and willingness to share their perspective as in Indigenous person. Applicants must demonstrate service to either their own community or other Indigenous communities. Please include a statement in your cover letter to identify how you meet this criteria.
  • Experience or expertise in qualitative research design, data collection, analysis, or interpretation of qualitative data.
