We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Instructor – Interior Decorating & Kitchen and Bath Design. This is a casual faculty position teaching in the Interior Decorating program(s),


Courses taught may include:


CADD, Residential Kitchen Design Colour and Light in Decorating, Principles & Elements of Design, Space Planning and Drafting, Drawing and Sketching, Residential Bath Design,
Window Coverings, Interior Decorating Studio 2


Instructors in Interior Decorating and Kitchen and Bath Design are responsible for working with and supporting other instructors in a cohesive team environment, providing instruction to learners, evaluating learner’s progress, designing and developing curriculum and instructional materials, and supporting learners in meeting the learning outcomes of their course and program.


Additional responsibilities will include:


Provide Quality Courses in Programs Areas

  • Prepare and update course syllabus/outline and content

  • Advise on changes/improvements to course outline

  • Follow and update lesson plans

  • Develop and update curriculum, manuals and guides as required

  • Mark learner assessments

  • Submit grades

  • Instruct courses as assigned

  • Advise on textbooks and resource updates for each course

  • Provide resource materials to support course delivery

  • Maintain inventory for classroom materials and supplies, etc.

  • As necessary, work with Program Chair to process transfer credit requests


Provide a Positive Learning Experience for Learners

  • Meet with learners regarding any academic issues

  • Identify areas of concerns and refer to the Program Chair if follow up is necessary

  • Refer any issues to Program Chair if more intervention is required

  • Act as a liaison between learners and other College contacts/departments and if necessary make referrals for additional resources as required

  • Ensure that any special learner accommodations are met (i.e. revise course load, vision impairments, hearing impairments, testing, etc.)

  • If applicable, nominate and refer learners for various awards and scholarships; this may include completing any necessary forms and applications

  • Participate in graduation events


Build and Maintain Relationship with Internal and External Stakeholders and Promote the Department and the College

  • Meet with industry stakeholders and sit on Advisory Committees

  • Attend external community meetings as required

  • Conduct and/or attend various community events (i.e. Career Fairs, High School Presentations, etc.)


Other Duties /Special Projects

  • Engage in professional opportunities

  • Carry out any special requests as directed by the Program Chair or Associate Dean

  • Ability and willingness to participate in applied research




Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Related Field – (i.e. Interior Decorating, Design, or Architecture)
  • 5 years - Professional decorating, design, and or architectural industry-related field experience
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered

Preferred

  • Master’s degree – related field
  • Experienced educator and instructor
  • Practitioner of adult learning principles
  • Excellent Communication
  • Teaching experience
  • Curriculum development an asset
  • Industry relationships an asset
  • Preferred member of CDECA and/or NKBA and/or IDC
  • Expertise in AutoCAD (preferred Auto Desk certification)
  • Knowledge of 20/20, Chief Architect, and Sketch-up
