Driver Trainer / Mobile Training Instructor

Pacific Western Transportation has an opening for a Driver Trainer / Mobile Training Instructor based out of its Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Edmonton. Some weekend work and out-of-town travel required.

In this role, you will deliver Alberta’s Class 2 and Class 2-S MELT (Mandatory Entry-Level Training) program to employees and customers and also instruct sessions on our Mobile Training Unit and driving simulator.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Must have held a class 1 or 2 driver’s licence with S endorsement for at least 3 years
  • Ability to become a Class 2 or 2-S Driving Instructor and successfully complete MELT Instructor training
  • Alberta Transportation certified or licenced School Bus Driver Improvement Course (SBDIC) Instructor preferred
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial regulations
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience
  • Previous training experience
  • Experience in course creation and presentation
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills with a customer service orientation and an ability to work in a professional manner with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment (specifically as it relates to technology)
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capability
  • Awareness of adult learning principles / techniques

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to provincial MELT requirements for class 2 training
  • Ensure documentation for licensing is completed to set standards
  • Conduct and document required classroom and behind-the-wheel training for drivers and re-training as needed
  • Perform ongoing annual and post collision driver evaluations
  • Assist in new candidate selection through pre-employment check rides
  • Instruct classroom material and put trainees through various simulator programming on Mobile Training Unit (training provided)
  • Work with other company stakeholders to ensure consistent training process for all trainees
