Community Rehabilitation Worker
Location: Brain Injury Services (various - community-based)

Since 1985, Universal Rehabilitation Service Agency, URSA, has been a Calgary based non-profit agency that works to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities, brain injury and complex medical needs in community settings.

As a Community Rehabilitation Worker, in URSA’s Brain Injury Services, you will join a comprehensive rehabilitation team of brain injury services support staff and work in close partnership with the individual, their families, and communities to support the person to achieve their goals such as becoming more independent within their home and community and to experience a satisfying quality of life.

The Brain Injury Services Program provides services to adult brain injury survivors though community access and is based out of several of URSA’s program locations throughout Calgary and URSA’s Easy Street. The program also operates several community-based groups throughout Calgary and provides 1:1 service in individual’s homes. We continue to break down a multitude of barriers for these individuals and help them thrive in the community.

As the CRW in Brain Injury Services, a typical day might include:

  • Build and maintain relationships with individuals in the program, their family members and supports and with your team.
  • Support the overall quality of life of individuals through meaningful activities and community access.
  • Support individuals with hygiene and personal care routines while out in the community.
  • Support individuals with mobility needs, including but not limited to pushing a wheelchair in the community and at community venues.
  • Support individuals with medication administration as per URSA policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement individual service plans that are specific to individual strengths, needs, abilities and preferences, and monitor these plans, adjusting goals as needed.
  • Plan & facilitate weekly group activities and special events.
  • Support brain injury survivors to access community resources such as AISH, Fair Entry, Calgary Transit Access, to name a few.
  • Support individuals with medical appointments or other relevant appointments.
  • Complete comprehensive contact notes about the individual. These may include any goal progress or activities they participated in. As well as any medical or behavioral concerns, etc.)
  • Liaises with other internal and external resources to ensure that all aspects of each individual’s wellness needs are met.
  • Communicates and consults with families and guardians on a regular basis, providing solutions and support to address their concerns and feedback.

You Offer:

  • Education and/or experience working with brain injury survivors or other vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to be proactive, take initiative and utilize strong interpersonal skills to build relationships internally and externally.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to support the needs of the program and organization.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Standard First Aid/ CPR.
  • Team player with strong group facilitation skills which include superior communication.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with 3 years clear driving record in Canada and access to a personal vehicle to use for work purposes.
  • A minimum of $1,000,000 in liability insurance
