We are seeking a Vice President, Manufacturing Operations,reporting to the CEO.

This role will be a key member of the company’s Executive Leadership Team and lead all manufacturing and operations activities for our hydrogen business unit. There are few comparable growth opportunities for a nascent industry to be transformed into highly industrialized and globalized mass manufacturing. This is a unique business growth situation. Advancement in solar panels, wind turbines, electric cars and other similar new technology in the past 20 years needs to be achieved in the water electrolysis industry. This role is based out of the Hydrogen Optimized office at 1800 17th Street East, Owen Sound, Ontario.

Relocation allowance is a consideration for qualified candidates looking to relocate to Owen Sound.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Development and implementation of the Company’s manufacturing strategies, policies, and processes for our first factory in Owen Sound and, subsequently, potentially five or more factories in key markets around the world
  • Provide the leadership and transformational change required to create, build, and optimize performance and efficiency for the company’s manufacturing functions (manufacturing, quality, CI, and safety)
  • Have operational P&L responsibility for the company’s manufacturing operations and provide the leadership and environment required for the development and support of high-performance individuals and teams across the organization
  • Provide professional leadership and management across all components of the company’s operations organization to ensure standards of performance which will evolve the company’s manufacturing from its current state to a world-class profitable operation as demand grows driven by the Energy Transition. This includes staged scaling based on market pull and financial capacity, cost efficiency, regulatory compliance, safety, and quality to support the achievement of our aggressive growth plans and financial objectives and quality to support the achievement of our aggressive growth plans and financial objectives
  • Provide and implement specific programs to optimize the manufacturing base to best serve the needs of the business with the objectives of increased efficiencies, improved cost position, high levels of quality, customer satisfaction and employee safety
  • Lead the challenge of overcoming underdeveloped and weak supply changes through strong vertical integration while still enabling “make or buy” decisions as the supply chain matures that keep suppliers bidding hard for our business
  • Develop and lead the implementation of the company’s operational plans and programs to drive high levels of performance by all key individuals and teams across the Manufacturing Operations organization
  • Develop the capital strategy for the operations in line with our business plans and objectives and oversee the execution in collaboration with the Executive team and other peers
  • Manage, train, mentor and support the optimized performance of the direct report team

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility in a global manufacturing and supply chain environment in a complex manufacturing environment and industry
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct people leadership experience
  • Extensive experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and cost control practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships while working collaboratively with cross-functional business teams
  • Must have documented proficiency in creating and nurturing lean manufacturing and continuous improvement environments with documented experience driving best practices, continuous improvement, and all contemporary initiatives appropriate to both manufacturing and supply chain management
  • Demonstrated understanding of scaling manufacturing, including first-production plants
  • Experience as a senior leader, this individual must have prior experience in the critical issues of the business, including the financial issues impacting the business
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, including the ability to develop high-performance leaders and teams dedicated to excellence and best practices appropriate to all functional areas of manufacturing and supply chain
