Salary: $147,720 - $209,920 CAD / year
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Reporting to the Head Sponsor – GO Expansion, the Union Station Program Sponsor oversees the development of Union Station to meet the needs and realize the benefits of the GO Expansion program. The Union Station Program Sponsor directs a versatile team to manage the diverse projects currently in construction or planned for Union Station and the Union Station Rail Corridor. The role includes the daily management of high profile and politically sensitive projects, ensuring a clear strategic direction is set for construction works and that business case outcomes are achieved. The Union Station Program Sponsor also enhances collaboration using project management approaches, assigning functions and roles on a principled basis, clarifying roles, identifying external expertise and realigning resources.
What will I be doing?
- Being accountable for the benefits to be realized by the investment, in line with the corporate strategy for the GO Expansion Program. Owning the vision and the business case for the Union station upgrade and representing the investment.
- Establishing effective stakeholder relationships as appropriate, representing the interests of clients, customers and stakeholders and acting as the focal point for resolution of issues relating to the Union station upgrade.
- Establishing working relationships with a range of team members, including GO Rail operations, VIA Rail, Metrolinx Capital Project Group teams, Communications and Stakeholder Management teams and other key parts of the Metrolinx organization to ensure the wider strategic picture is reflected within business case development and project frameworks.
- Owning the requirements definition for the Union station upgrade.
- Facilitating and arbitrating between functions to achieve appropriate access for the works taking account of passenger, business and stakeholder interests.
- Applying corporate governance for the Union station program, particularly with regard to investment and the approvals for spend.
- Collaborating with other projects as necessary and facilitating the achievement of the overall GO Expansion Program benefits with appropriate compromises where necessary.
- Identifying opportunities, and risks and applying political acuity to analyze/assess and mitigate; developing and directing mitigation strategies that comply with Metrolinx policies. Monitoring risks, constraints, and contingencies to avoid additional project costs, penalties and delays and making recommendations regarding investments and risks to achieve value for money.
- Assuring the efficient delivery of the Union station program by monitoring progress, challenging where necessary, and supporting delivery teams and operations.
- Directing the preparation of detailed reports (Board reports, presentations for major public meetings); editing and providing input to project staff prepared reports and proposals in response to Board and senior management requests, latest legislative and regulatory requirements. Delivering, or supporting the delivery, of presentations to the Board and at public meetings.
- Being the key liaison to the Head Sponsor – GO Expansion and other senior managers and colleague directors on complex technical and financial issues relating to the Union station program.
