Opportunity

DEWY is a community treatment program compromising of group counselling and activities for young people struggling with the effects of substance use. The Program compromises of a mixture of group and individual counselling along with structured recreational activities, which are arranged at afternoon, evening and weekends and is flexible to the needs of youth. The program is based in Surrey City Centre Youth Hub.

The Team Lead will provide individual support to staff, carry a caseload, and liaise with families, funders, and other professionals. They will also lead and facilitate groups as required and ensure recreation activities support a recovery orientation. The team lead is familiar using evidence-based interventions such as substance use recovery-oriented models, brief intervention counselling, attachment theory, child and adolescent growth and development, counselling theories such as CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, and Existential and Experiential therapies.

The team lead will support the team to balance methodologies with relationship-based practice all within a strength based, trauma-and-resiliency informed approach. This position requires a sound understanding of adolescent development, mental health, addictions, and trauma-and-resiliency informed practices. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.

Responsibilities:

• Work with Manager to ensure overall operations, finances, quality assurance and service delivery; implement contract requirements; monitor, report, and assess service performance related to meeting contract outcomes.

• Understand and apply PCRS’s policies and procedures.

• With Manager, support and develop an engaged, collaborative, and effective staff team.

• Provide counselling to participants in a safe environment using evidence-based interventions.

• Oversee development, documentation, and on-going reviews to all program components, ensuring all program components reflect a substance use recovery orientation, including developing and monitoring an active evaluation process to address agency and funder requirements.

• Maintain appropriate group and individual case files and related documentation.

• Maintain effective and appropriate relationships with funders, partner service delivery organizations, government officials, volunteers, and community groups.

• Participate on committees, working groups, and associations; and develop community networks relevant to managed services.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, combined with at least five (5) years’ experience in a leadership position.
• An equivalent combination of education and clinical or hospital experience will also be considered.
• Demonstrated experience in supporting teams in counselling roles, supervision, and fiscal management.
• A thorough knowledge of relevant government legislation.
• Experience working with target population.

• Experience creating and working within a culturally inclusive environment for staff, partners, and participants.
• Effective team building and mentoring skills.
• Strong verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills.
• Excellent time management skills: ability to balance multiple, often conflicting priorities.
• A sound understanding of substance use recovery models, attachment, mental health, and trauma-and-resiliency informed practices.
