The Program
392-32 Strong Families St Paul
The Strong families program, under contract by Children's Services, uses Signs of Safety and strengths-based approach, to support youth & families in St Paul and area with developing healthy interpersonal skills, self-esteem, conflict management, parenting, financial skills, and overcoming barriers such as addictions and mental health.

Hours of Work Per Week: 40

Scheduled Hours: 8:30-4:30, however staff keep a flexible 40 hrs/wk schedule, including evenings & especially weekends to accommodate supporting children & family appointments and supervised visitation.
In Your Role You Will

  • Use your own vehicle to conduct family visits in the community and transport clients to appointments, supervised visits, etc. (mileage reimbursed at $0.51/km)
  • Determine family needs/develop goal-based service plans through assessments and discussions with the youth/families.
  • Provide resources and model - communication, boundaries, behavior management, child development, effective problem solving or other relevant information related to outlined client goals
  • Support children & families to connect with community resources/programs (recreation, child care, employment supports & job coaching, addictions support, family counselling, etc.) to build a support network for future growth and success.
  • Record and report client progress.
  • Advocate for clients when appropriate

The Position
You will work a flexible 40 hr/wk schedule to meet the needs of families including weekend drives and supervised family visits.
The Family Support Worker works with families to successfully and safely raise their children, building on their strengths and learning skills such as daily routine for children, attachment, child development milestones, healthy family conflict resolution, building resilience, life skills and developing positive relationships with friends and family.
Preference for qualified Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Metis) applicants with strong cultural ties to the community.
**Qualification requirements deem this to be Family Support Worker level 2.**

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
*

  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Addictions, etc.
  • 2+ years social work experience in family and community supports, intervention, youth work, trauma informed care, addictions, kinship/foster care, etc.
  • Valid Driver’s License, reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance, and clean driver’s abstract
  • A passion for working with families within your community
  • Awareness of applicable community resources to meet client needs
  • Knowledge of indigenous culture is an asset
  • Experience working with computer software systems
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
