Summer Arts and Culture Ambassadors
ABOUT THE SUMMER ARTS AND CULTURE AMBASSADORS
ECAH (the Esquimalt Community Arts Hub) is seeking two (2) passionate and enthusiastic Summer Arts and Culture Ambassadors to support a broad range of programs, including leading walking tours throughout the Township of Esquimalt, brainstorming and delivering outdoor crafts for youth, and representing ECAH and our partner organizations at events and around the community.
This position will be overseen by ECAH, but will participate in collaborative arts & culture work with the Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce and the Esquimalt Farmers
Market.
Candidates must be between the ages of 15 - 30 years old during the time of their employment, legally eligible to work in Canada and must pass a Criminal Record review for working with vulnerable populations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Summer Walking Tours
- Deliver outdoor tours of Esquimalt to visitors in partnership with Seaquest Cruises
- Be an enthusiastic and charismatic spokesperson for arts and culture in Esquimalt
- Safely guide participants across roads, crosswalks and other outdoor areas
- Answer questions about the material and offer basic wayfinding
- Conduct research about existing cultural and historic areas in Esquimalt
- Compile research and information into a separate walking tour series for locals
General Support
- Support and promote event programming, including workshops and our Urban Arts Tour
- Represent ECAH and our partner organizations at events and in the community
- Brainstorming, creation, and delivery of a series of outdoor craft workshops
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Outgoing, energetic, and comfortable speaking in front of large groups and connecting with people. Theater students, we’re looking for you!
- Able and comfortable to work independently out in the community with little to no supervision
- Experience delivering tours, workshops, or other related programming is an asset
- Familiarity with online programs like email, Zoom, Google Drive, etc.
- Basic communication skills such as reading, writing and speaking
- Comfortable with work-from-home tasks
- Enthusiasm about the visual arts and public art is an asset
Training will be provided to the successful candidates.

This role requires speaking and moving outdoors, however we will work with candidates with physical disabilities to prioritize accessibility for both the Arts Ambassador and tour participants. Candidates with mobility devices should consider applying as this is not necessarily a barrier to carrying out the role.

Position 2 - June 19 - August 21

Part-time hours: 30 per week
Salary: $18.00 per hour
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program.
