Your Opportunity:

This position reports to the Manager of Facilities Maintenance and Engineering, Glenrose & Norwood and is responsible for the hands-on completion of work assignments using good judgement in accordance with all applicable codes and Hospital Policy & Procedures. The incumbent is responsible for performing Journeyman-level brush and spray painting work in the maintenance of interior and exterior hospital buildings, furniture and structural woodwork. The incumbent will create and coordinate the replacement and/or installation of signage. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, assessing and monitoring the condition of all painted components, performing preventative and demand maintenance, making repairs, providing technical expertise, attending inspections and purchasing materials. Responsibilities include participation in activities and initiatives aimed at promoting, maintaining and improving quality and safety for patients, families and caregivers. The primary location will be the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and CapitalCare Norwood campus, but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone. Potential multi-site duties as directed by the FM&E Director or Manager.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Painter or Signwriter Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of Grade XII. Must comply with Alberta Health Services regulations, policies and procedures. Must comply with Alberta OH&S Act, regulations and code. Must be able to work in physically demanding environments. Must be physically fit and able to lift heavy objects. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to identify and prioritize maintenance needs. Must be able to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal. Must have computer skills, knowledge about Microsoft programs, and building maintenance programs. The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment is essential for this position. Must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with management, supervisory staff and hospital co-workers. Must know appropriate safety procedures including safe use of power tools and have and understanding of WHMIS guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least three (3) years' experience working in a hospital or related institution as an asset.
