The Senior IT Security Specialist will be a key member of the network security operations team responsible for the infrastructure management, system support, and service offering of firewall and network-related security technologies deployed at Canadian Tire. Working independently and as part of a large Enterprise Cybersecurity team, this position collaborates with both IT and business teams to deliver services and defend Canadian Tire’s technology infrastructure against a complex cyber threat environment.

This full-time, permanent position will involve an on-call component.

What You Will Do

As Senior Information Security Specialist on the Network Security Team, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing network security infrastructure and implementing technical security policies and configurations.

  • Responding to and resolving network access issues related to network security infrastructure, security policy, or remote access.

  • As needed, end-to-end implementation of new technical solutions including installation, integration, and establishing operational practices.

  • Proactive identification of technical systems or issues, automation opportunities, process improvements, and implementing improvements related to such.

  • Lifecycle management of technologies including patching, capacity planning, replacing platforms as required.

  • Enhancing team knowledge by documenting solutions, creating runbooks, updating knowledge bases.

  • Improving the adaptation and capabilities of existing and incoming security technologies by researching and implementing best practices and latest features as part of lifecycle management.

What you bring

To be considered a successful candidate, you will require technical acumen and soft skills.

Your technical background must include extensive experience with network security technologies. It would be advantageous to have experience with one or a combination of more than one of the network security technologies mentioned above.

Your soft skills must include strong and effective communication skills. You will be interfacing with diverse groups of people with varying backgrounds both in and out of IT. It is desirable to have a strong customer-focused mindset, with a strong desire to help and provide security services.

We are looking for high performing individuals who have:

  • A strong technical background with one or more combinations of network security technologies, including but not limited to:

    • Next generation firewalls

    • Web application firewalls

    • Cloud technologies and native network security functions within cloud environments

    • Access, Authentication, and Authorization (AAA) technologies

    • Firewall management and automation tools

    • Remote access VPN

    • Multifactor authentication technologies

    • Microsegmentation technologies

  • Customer-focused, who will not hesitate to step outside the confines of their roles if the results will benefit the enterprise.

  • Cultivators of people, knowledge, and innovation.

  • Flexible and willing to take on a wide variety of technologies with an expanding portfolio.

  • Strong collaborators who have an organization-first attitude, creative thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators.

  • Looking to bring their experience to a team that is developing and evolving to meet the changing landscape of cybersecurity, and IT in general.

  • Comfortable working in an environment where management, team members, and customers are geographically distributed.

  • Organized and effective in coordinating, tracking, and reporting tasks.

Other proficiencies or experience that would be an asset:

  • Related Network Security experience

  • Related Governance experience

  • Scripting and development experience

  • Familiarity with ITIL, industry recognized ticketing tools

  • Experience with compliance frameworks, especially PCI-DSS

  • Industry recognized certificates and technology-specific certifications

  • Understanding of system development lifecycles and agile methodologies
