Our company is currently seeking an experienced skilled Senior Estimator (or an estimator that is ready to take the next step in their career) based in beautiful Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada or willing to relocate to the Kamloops area. Reporting to the President of The Tunneling Company, this experienced, analytical individual will be responsible for estimating earthworks, tunneling, and/or trenchless job requirements, interpreting and producing technical documentation and specifications and other project estimating tasks, described below.

You will:

  • Estimate civil earthworks, tunneling, and trenchless project materials, technical specifications, employee hours, cost and any other job requirements for project.
  • Apply technical experience to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings, as well as development of estimating strategies and methodologies.
  • Evaluate, assess, and address situational factors such as complexities, conditions, and trends, etc.
  • Effectively analyze trenchless and earthworks project benchmarks and historical costs.
  • Participate in presentation of estimates/proposals to corporate management and potentially participate in tender presentations to clients.
  • Identify potential risks, opportunities, and alternative solutions, as well as, work on continuous improvement.
  • Perform material take-offs and systematically estimates costs involving: Fabrication, Manufacturing, and trenchless projects.
  • Obtain, review and maintain documentation of third party pricing.
  • Populate the necessary estimates/proposals documents such as clarifications lists, tender forms, work break down structures, rates schedules, etc.
  • Perform quality checks on estimates to ensure accuracy.
  • Set up job and specifications as well as enter take-offs into Estimating Software.
  • Export files from Estimating Software by project as well as each discipline by construction work package.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to other members within the team.
  • Assist in administering project estimating functions such work assignments, sequencing of priorities, etc. as required by the company.
  • Attend and participate in team as well as functional meetings; provide insight with regards to current/outstanding issues and weekly progress.
  • Attend and participate in site-visits, pre-bid meetings, post-bid meetings and preconstruction meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with other functions, engineering firms, and vendors to enhance project success; as required by the company.
  • Ensure all documentation is relevant and available to support the development of estimates/proposals.
  • Collectively maintain the estimate/proposal files as back-up for the estimate/proposal including acute information on qualifications, labour rates, tunnel construction rates, material pricing from suppliers, subcontract pricing from third parties vendors, benchmarks of historical productivity figures, etc.
  • Track and record and post awards and rejections for continuous improvement and history tracking.
  • Post, review and print off any required information from the company document management system which pertains to current tasks, responsibilities, and projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years in industrial estimating experience required with formal education.
  • Construction Engineering Technologist Diploma, Professional Engineer Designation or Geotechnical Engineer Designation or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of extensive, practical and successful experience in organizing and preparing industrial cost estimates/proposals for construction projects would be considered equivalent for the formal education requirement.
  • Intermediate to Expert computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Estimating Software Microsoft Office Suite specifically Microsoft Project.
  • Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD, estimating techniques and strategies and knowledge of tunneling, civil, earthworks, trenchless or pipeline construction.
  • Having excellent organizational and decision making/problem solving skills.
  • Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, analyze and understand trenchless crossing drawings, associated documentation, contracts, cost coding systems, work breakdown structures, etc.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and to communicate effectively with others, having strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation.

Work Environment

  • Mostly office-based duties.
  • Standard business hours Monday to Friday, occasional overtime will be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel to worksites and other office locations occasionally and may occur in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.

Salary: $120,000.00-$160,000.00 per year
