Job Summary

A dynamic role for a skilled analyst with excellent research and communication skills

The Strategic Integration, Policy and Legislation Division supports the Ministry and the children, youth, young adults, and families that it serves by providing advice and support on a range of functions. This includes strategic and operational policy; strategic implementation, communications, and external engagements on priority projects; legislation; litigation; research, and expertise and support on several cross-government initiatives.

The Policy, Legislation and Litigation Branch provides strategic research, policy, legislation, and litigation services to MCFD.

The Strategic Policy and Research (SPRe) team in the Ministry of Children and Family Development focuses on enhancing the ministry’s research capacity and building partnerships with post-secondary institutions, researchers, and the community social service sector. SPRe is also responsible for cross-ministry strategic policy.

The Senior Analyst reports to the Manager of Research and champions and leads research engagement and learning activities, which includes identifying, documenting, and sharing promising practices across the social sector.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field (social sciences, humanities, law, public/business administration). Preference may be given to applicants with a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in conducting internal and/or external engagement and consultation.
  • Three or more years of experience in collecting and synthesizing information; developing and delivering reports/ presentations to communicate findings/recommendations to a broad audience.
  • Three or more years of experience in leading research and evaluation projects within a Social Sector Ministry or in a large community organization, with a focus on qualitative research, analysis and report writing (e.g. literature reviews, jurisdictional scans, interviews, focus groups, surveys, thematic analysis and program evaluation reports).


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Three or more years of experience in conducting evaluations and community-based research within a large social sector organization.
  • Three or more years of experience in project management, including leading a project from beginning (such as development of a project charter) to end (such as presenting on project outcomes).
  • Three or more years of experience in facilitating groups of varying sizes to achieve a specific business purpose.
  • Three or more years of experience in working collaboratively with Indigenous partners or organizations.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 4 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Children and Family Development offices: Abbotsford, Campbell River, Cranbrook, Fort Nelson, Hope, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, Prince George, Smithers, Surrey, Vancouver, Victoria, Williams Lake.
