Reporting to the Contracting Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for providing support with executing financial reporting and accounting activities including performing detailed project analysis, managing the Plants/Pits/Oil divisions and supervising junior accountants and assistants.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for assisting the Contracting Controller with financial reporting and information analysis to stakeholders, including the General Manager, Project Managers and other Operational Managers.
• Assist with full-cycle accounting through recording of monthly adjustments and involvement in determining accurate accounting treatment of complex or unusual transactions.
• Assist with preparing formal analysis of our monthly financial results, projects, spending and other areas as required.
• Assist with process documentation, analysis, and control recommendations for all cycles within our group of companies.
• Preparing and posting adjusting journal entries as required.
• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations for month-end, following up on any issues and correcting errors in a timely manner as required.
• Assist with the month-end and quarterly financial close process.
• Assist with timely and accurate IFRS financial reporting requirements per parent company in Holland and other internal/external stakeholders. This includes completion of monthly and quarterly financial reporting for the Corporate group.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POSITION WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

• Accounting designation required (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA or equivalent).
• Relevant post-secondary business degree in accounting or finance.
• Excellent technical accounting knowledge and application in IFRS and Canadian ASPE frameworks.
• 2+ years in a supervisory accounting role with oversight over junior staff.
• 5+ years of relevant work experience in a professional environment.
• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Detail oriented, ability to show initiative and take responsibility.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience in construction industry, an asset.
• Experience in project accounting, an asset.
