About the role

The Director, Technology Risk Management is primarily responsible for overseeing, monitoring, and independently reporting on information technology risks.

The position requires a high degree of initiative, rigour, and independent thinking with a strong blend of technical and communication skills.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Independently review and challenge the identification, measurement, monitoring and reporting of top and emerging information technology risks across the company.
  • Act as an independent advisor to senior leaders to influence business decisions and strategic initiatives related to technology.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the information technology risk appetite statement for the North American operations.
  • Oversee the implementation of the operational risk program related to information technology including conducting reviews of major incidents, risk and control assessments, and key risk indicators.
  • Review technology and information security and management risk program activities applicable policies and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Identify potential risks and make recommendations or escalate when appropriate.
  • Act as the contact within the risk management team for internal/external stakeholder relationships related to information technology risk.
  • Review and challenge organizational compliance with relevant regulatory guidelines such as OSFI guideline B-13 (Technology and Cyber Risk Management)
  • Review and contribute to regulatory reporting related to information technology risk.
  • Contribute to reports related to technology risk for various risk committees.
  • Collaborate regularly with risk management colleagues in Europe.
  • Networks with industry contacts to gather competitive insights and best practices.
  • Contribute to an excellent work environment by providing exemplary leadership.

Job Requirements

  • University Degree in Computer Science.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in IT and/or Cyber Security (also includes oversight roles in Risk management or Internal Audit).
  • Knowledge of NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, and associated standards.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Seasoned expert with extensive knowledge of information technology.
  • Able to manage ambiguity.

  • Insight focused and data driven.
  • Exposure to technology in the financial services sector preferred.
  • Cybersecurity designation (CISSP or CISM or CISA) preferred
