This position will be based in Point Pelee National Park, within the Southwestern Ontario Field Unit. From the picturesque Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, to the most Southern point of Canada at Point Pelee National Park, the Southwestern Ontario Field Unit offers a truly distinctive work environment. In 1918, Point Pelee National Park was the first national park established for conservation purposes.

The area is within the traditional territory of the Caldwell First Nation and Walpole Island First Nation and has a rich cultural history dating back at least 6,000 years. The park and the First Nations work in collaboration on a range of initiatives, including marsh restoration, hyperabundant species management, traditional ceremonies in the park, employment for First Nations youth, and sharing knowledge for cultural conservation.

Point Pelee National Park is an ecologically significant area, composed of a 15 km2 sand spit and marsh complex that extends into Lake Erie, the park provides habitat for more than 390 species of birds and 750 vascular plants, and also supports over 60 species at risk protected under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) (S.C. 2002, c.29).
