Location: Our headquarters are located in Nanaimo, BC but as this is a remote position you will be working from home and would not be required to travel

Job Summary
Strength Counselling Services (SCS) is looking for ONE skilled and engaged Clinical Counsellor with experience in providing direct client care to individuals in counselling settings. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of digital counselling services to all clients assigned to them.

  • Preference will be given to individuals in the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with specialized trainings (I.e. EMDR, CPT, IFS, somatics etc).
  • Preference will be given to individuals who speak french
  • Preference will be given to those with experience working with youth

What You’ll Do

  • Complete intake assessments for all new clients assigned directly to you via methods such as interviewing the client, obtaining relevant information and gathering relevant social data if needed.
  • Formulate treatment plans with clients in accordance with professional practice standards and clinical policies.
  • Provide clinical mental health interventions in the context of evidence-based care/therapies to children, youth, adults and seniors through individual, family, couples and group therapy.
  • Complete case notes in the electronic medical records after each session.
  • Liaise with other professions working with the clients (i.e. Doctors, case managers, dieticians etc) on an as needed basis.

What You’ll Bring
A. Qualifications

  • A Masters Degree in Counselling
  • A minimum of 1 year related experience working in the field of counselling and providing direct client care.
  • Current full registration with the the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (or comparative College in your province).
  • Current criminal record check and vulnerable sectors check

B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of Social Work theory and Practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and document a comprehensive intake assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduce mental status exams and suicide risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direct client care, treatment planning, supportive counselling, crisis interventions and case coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individual, couples, family and/or group counselling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with substance use and addictions treatment.
  • Knowledge and ability to manage crisis and crisis intervention.
  • Strong understanding and integration of ethical standards and practices.
  • Discretion and respect for confidentiality.
  • Knowledge and experience in providing culturally safe and competent care while demonstrating respect for diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and use critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a clinical team.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Basic computer literacy skills to provide online counselling services via Zoom and to operate the clients charts in an electronic medical record.
