Responsibilities


The Project Manager will lead the planning and delivery of projects, within scope, budget, and requirements, directly associated with construction activities within the New Campus Development (NCD). The planning and construction of the new campus, and its sub-projects, are one of the largest infrastructure projects in Ottawa’s history and will reshape health care in Ottawa.

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Project Manager:

  • Manages the planning and delivery of strategic projects/initiatives that are of strategic importance to the Hospital
  • The projects will involve a heavy amount of engagement with project teams, Consultants (i.e., Engineers, Architects, others), management team, senior leadership, and other internal/external stakeholders.
  • Acts as the resource person for various Committees associated with the projects and is responsible for stakeholder engagement, workplan development, ensuring that milestones are met and that the projects are achieving their objectives.
  • Develops project strategies, frameworks and recommendations based on a strong understanding of evaluation principles.

The incumbent will be able to build and maintain strong relationships with multiple relevant stakeholders, including Contractors, to build trust, commitment and accountability leading to results that benefit patients and populations.


What you will bring

  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist (CET), 3-year community college program;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of mechanical design and construction experience or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience;
  • Advanced proficiency with computer applications: Microsoft Office applications in particular – MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, along with ability to quickly learn new applications;Familiarity with relevant portions of the National Building Code, Provincial Building Code, area municipality Building Codes and Practices, CSA standards specific to healthcare and facilities, Ontario Fire Marshall's Regulations, Insurance Advisory Council Regulations and industry standards for mechanical, and electrical work;
  • Strong experience of managing strategic projects, championing change and adaptability to changing environment. Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems, principles and practices and can proactively identify and document any problems/conflicts and effectively manage and resolve them;
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with project stakeholders and to manage client relationships and expectations;High level of experience with building automation system (BAS); environmental control equipment (i.e. fume hoods, biological containment cabinets, clean rooms), heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing & fire protection, medical gas systems and water treatment;
  • Experience with commissioning and the commissioning process, including but not limited to, development and review of commissioning plan, overseeing the installation of various equipment, plants and systems on site, ensuring products are working according to their specifications and meet the clients need.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (Engineering) or an equivalent mix of education and work experience;
  • Experience on major project.
