Position Summary

To perform duties which provide optimum individualized resident care, under the direction of the Resident Care Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • A current diploma/ certificate in Social Work, PSW or Health Care.
  • Health Care Aide experience in gerontology or related field, preferred.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience in retirement with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to perform shift work requirements in a 7 day a week operation.
  • Computer literacy an asset.
  • Ability to meet and maintain health requirement standards of The Waterford.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the operational policies.
  • Ensuring resident care is provided in a manner reflective of The Waterford values.
  • Responsibility for the safe and respectful care of residents while maintaining complete and accurate applicable documentation.
  • Participating in all aspects of resident care, while continually ensuring the safety of residents.
  • Assisting in maintaining an environment to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial needs of the residents.
  • Assisting resident needs for recreational and rehabilitation programs, as appropriate, and encourages resident participation in same.
  • Assisting with preparation and serving of meals, nourishments, and dietary supplements.
  • Establishing a good rapport with residents’ families and significant others, offering support as required.
  • Ensuring daily, the neatness of resident’s rooms (including chest of drawers, room, closets, bathrooms, etc.) and common areas (including utility rooms, serveries, bathrooms, etc.).
  • Obtain appropriate professional development to ensure skills and abilities are maintained.
  • Assists members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the needs of our residents are met.
  • Performing other related duties, as delegated by Resident Care Coordinator.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate all fire equipment.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Physical ability to perform the functions of the job.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as well as lift and carrying heavy trays and items.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to concentrate in an environment that provides constant interruption and change.
  • Lifting alone, maximum 40 lbs. (5-25 lbs. usual) as a non-essential job function.
  • Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs. (100-125 usual) as an essential job function.
  • Pushing/pulling, maximum 100 lbs. (20-50 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
  • Stretching/reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as an essential job function.
  • Walking, with possibility of some upstairs walking (1-2 hours usual), as an essential job function.
  • Standing, for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2- hours usual), as an essential job function.
  • Crouching/kneeling for short periods of time as a non-essential job function.
  • Is a competent person as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (N.B. See Competency Criteria under Qualifications).
  • Monitors adherence to safety policies and procedures of subordinates and promotes safe work practices for self and others.
  • Wears personal protective equipment or clothing as required by task, MSDS or residence policy.
  • Ensures that all reported injuries/illnesses are treated promptly and documented according to policy, and that transportation for treatment of critical injury is arranged.
  • Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills and knows the residence fire and disaster plan.

Salary: $17.03-$18.09 per hour
