The Opportunity:

We currently have a temporary opportunity for a Payroll Administrator to join the Newcrest team in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Payroll Administrator performs various clerical and accounting tasks such as data management, responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of the payroll and keeps employee information relevant to payroll purposes up to date. Provides support to other roles within the payroll department, as required and is a member of the Finance team.

The Payroll Administrator responsibilities include:

  • Process semi-monthly payroll and special payments for 700+ salaried and unionized hourly employees on a timely basis, as required
  • Data entry in CATS for all hours for completeness and accuracy, as required (approx. 20 employees)
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of ESA and all payroll statutory regulations
  • Collaborate with managers/supervisors/timekeepers/HR to address payroll related errors and discrepancies
  • Review accuracy of employee master data entry in SAP, administered by HRSS
  • Preparation and reconciliation of payroll related remittances (RRSP, garnishments, union dues and government agencies) and responding to inquiries, as required
  • Preparation of pay period reconciliation, journal entries, adjustments and monthly leadsheets for review
  • Process electronic Record of Employment and responding to Service Canada requests for payroll related information
  • Year-end processing of T4/T4A Summary in SAP including review of taxable benefits and CRA PD7A continuity reconciliation exercise
  • SME for SAP payroll module, including assisting in all payroll related upgrades, UAT, PSOPs and payroll related ad hoc reports, as required
  • Responding to employees, internal/external auditors, government agencies and third-party vendors relating to payroll
  • Facilitate payroll training, as required
  • Payroll general duties, as required

About You:

  • 5+ years of payroll experience
  • Meet and uphold Certified Payroll Professional criteria (enrolled with NPA)
  • Dependability in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills in particular
  • Outstanding data entry skills
  • Good knowledge of ERP systems (JDE/SAP)
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and solid financial acumen
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Full Cycle Payroll accounting
  • Expertise Federal/Provincial payroll regulations and requirements
  • Knowledgeable about internal controls
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
